I need help. I know there are lots of meat loving GZ’ers out there so, having overcooked today’s Xmas lamb, I need a new meat thermometer.

I’m currently using a cheap sub $20 thermometer but need something more accurate.

I’d prefer an app-free quality traditional thermometer, but happy to consider all options. In short, if you love your current thermometer, I need to hear about it.

Thanks in advance.

Ive got 2 inkbirds, a single probe instant read and another 4 probe one that connects wirelessly to an app on my phone. Both great for their respective uses. I got them from inkbirds nz website as they often have specials.

You still have to have a feel for how fast the core temp is increasing and how much before your end temp you start resting the meat as it continues to cook. A cheap dial probe works fo me.

I've been using a four probe Weber thermometer for a few years, and it works well enough that I keep using it for constant monitoring of BBQ temperature and general meat temperature during a cook. Also have an Inkbird instant read probe, which is excellent for checking each part of the meat is cooked through. If I could only use one, it would probably be the Inkbird. Great bang for buck, especial when they're discounted.

I have a ThermoWorks RFX with 4 probes (does use app) and also a standalone Thermopen One which has a built in display and takes less than 1 second to display result. RFX is awesome. The app alerts me on the phone when temps have reached with a loud audible alarm. Alternatively you could look at ThermoWorks Signals which comes with a nice large display screen so no app is required. The beauty of RFX though is that probs are wireless and uses low frequency RF signal between wireless transceiver unit which can be attached magnetically inside home if you want and handle up to 550C direct heat even on a fire.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Thanks, appreciated. Had a look at all of these. Will grab an inkbird instant when back in stock. Longer term, may look at Meater or similar.

The inkbird looked appealing but yikes on the website (Image grabbed today - 26th Dec.. 24 days after the Black Friday deal expiry)

If you get an electronic one make sure you can buy compatible replacement probes for it. They tend to fail.

I have a six probe Solis Thermo. The base unit displays the probe temps and the app displays temps as well as charting them. I installed a grommet in the bbq so one probe is for the bbq temp.
It just works and has done so for several years.

For BBQ use I really would recommend against that one in favour of the ones you leave in and read remotely. Saves opening the hood and getting bbq temp variations. Minimum 2 probes, one for the meat and one for the bbq.

If you want the gold standard, then nothing beats a Thermapen One, or it's predecessor the MK4. I've tried many and wasn't really happy until I got the One. I recommend the buy once cry once approach if you want absolute certainty.

Having said that, usually, my Inkbird gives the same or similar enough reading, for far less than half the price. These are usually what I buy other people as gifts.

All the pro's use Thermapen pretty much.

I also have 2 Meaters, which I rate highly.

Instant Read Thermometers are such an essential kitchen item I gift them to people for various reasons.
