Expert Infotech have prices quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else, has anyone actually shopped from them? Good or bad experiences please! Thank you.

Ive used them for 4 odd purchases - always been good for me. They have a physical store and have been around a while. Ive heard of others with not so good stories. Typically those with bad experiences make the most noise :-)

I have brought multiple phones from them over the last few years and are very happy.

Would shop with them again.

Yes, would not order from them again. You get the service level you pay for.

I have used them to buy a phone.  Was a bit frustrating, before I purchased was told that it was in stock, then afterwards was told that it couldn't be delivered for a week as it was out of stock.  They came through in the end though.

I have bought off them a few times. Once an item got mislayed by courier and they quickly sorted it.  I am very pleased with them.

I've bought from them before and agree with RedJungle: you get the service you pay for. I prefer Acquire, iFocus and PBTech.

in stock seems to mean something different to them. Have been told many times in the past that a certain motherboard or somethign was instock both on site and when I called, but not when I went in.

Have not tried them since they moved to beside the gun shop down in wairau so perhaps with being bigger they now actually have stock.

They have a storefront which is more than you can say for most of the crap outfits on pricespy who are just dropshippers from someones garage. I would buy again if the difference was signifigant in favour of expertinfotech over another store, but for PC parts I find that others that I know will look after me are worth the premium. For a phone, perhaps. but would be cash on pickup, not paying for a non delivery.

Expert Infotech dont have the best name around anymore.....

Ive only dealt with them once quite a few years ago, had to wait a week for the item to be in stock at their store for pickup but otherwise couldnt complain.

Some stories around about buyers CC details being used to purchase airline tickets etc after ordering from them but if thats entirely true, who knows........

Thanks. not much choice here in Otago sadly. Its for a camera and the price difference is about $100.

Has anyone had any experiences with them with products that had to be returned that are under warranty? I think thats my main concern.

Cheers.

I have purchased 4 or 5 items from them before.  Initial sales process is fine, as that is all your money seems to cover...

I've had two warranty issues with them.

First was for my girlfriend's 10 month old mobile phone.  It was a slider phone, and the touch keys on the front stopped working one day.  After their service place inspected it, they found that the ribbon cable inside had broken somehow.  They told me this was not covered under warranty as it "would have been" caused by misuse of the phone.  I asked them if there was any signs whatsoever of misuse on the phone itself (scratches, dents etc) and they agreed that it probably wasn't caused by misuse, but refused to cover it anyway.  I also told them that it lived inside my gf's handbag so was always well protected.  I ended up just never contacting them back after having a rant, and they still have the phone now after over a year...

Second item was for a wireless MS desktop (keyboard and mouse).  The mouse stopped charging properly.  The set was within days of the warranty expiring, and I had a hard time convincing them to do something about it.  All the while they threaten that it may cost me something for them to look at it.  They ended up sending it back to MS, and over 3 weeks later I had a brand new replacement which I had to either go and collect, or pay another courier charge to have it delivered to me.  In the end it all worked out but was far from easy.

I hope this helps you with your decision on whether or not to purchase from them.

I refuse to shop with them anymore, have been slow with orders, poor communication, even forgetting about an order once.

I used them three times after reading some good reviews about them, but never again.

However that's just my experience, maybe it was just bad luck, but I'm not prepared to risk it again.

Thanks. If there was a warranty issue could you not go directly to the manufacturer? When my tv stopped working (a Sony one) I went to Harvey Norman's who told me to go to the local Sony service place. That's who fixed it and sorted out all the warranty stuff.

Depends if it is international warranty or not. Purchased a d40x from EI back in '08. Best price around but parallel imported. Took it back to EI for something under warranty. They sent it to Australia apparently. Took ages. Then not fixed properly. They left the camera body on a service shelf in the shop without a lens cap for more than a month. No professional outfit would do that. They offered to have another go but I decided to play it safe and take it for service with the local authorized agents at my cost.

This might sound a bit dumb but what does parallel imported mean? If its under warranty isn't the manufacturer obligated to fix it regardless of where it was purchased from?

Have bought a couple of phones and some other stuff from them but they are rude and indifferent towards their customers. Service is non-existent. Their website often says that they have things in stock ("low stock held") when they don't. They then order the stock themselves once they get your order and delivery can be weeks after what they have promised. So I have only ever bought stuff from them when I can actually go and pick it up.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
