I have just got a quote for an item (well ok a lot of an item) from one of those sellers off ali baba.

It isnt electronics so I feel ok about it.

I have never done this before so i cma having a bit of trouble deciphering the quotation.

Has anyone done this before who can give me a dummies guide to working this out?

I asked them how much for purchase and freight of 250 of these units to Chch NZ.

This was the reply.

Packing Information
WEIGHT
UNIT N.W: 15 kgs
UNIT G.W: 17 kgs
CTN Weight:
1pc/color box ,24pcs/CTN

Ok I figure this means 24 items per carton and the carton is 17KG gross and 15KG nominal?

DIMENSION
Product: 30*11*13.2cm
Gift Box:
CTN Box: 52x45.5x45cm

First one is dimensions of individual item boxes and second is dimensions of carton of 24 of them?

PACKAGE
6600 PCS/20'GP
13536 PCS/40'GP

I dont know what this means?

Quotation Information
FOB Shenzhen : US$3.86

This is how much per item?

Lead Time: 30 days

Time for freight to arrive?

Payment Term: T/T OR  L/C at sight

WTF? when do I pay??

ATTN: IF NEED ROHS THE PRICE HIGHTER 6%

What is ROHS?

If anyone can decipher this for me I would appreciate it.

Cheers

Lead time means time to manufacture, shipping will be on top of that.

T/T means telegraphic transfer, ie direct credit payment to their account. L/C letter of credit.

Google ROHS and have a read.

Good Luck

I just googled and found:

T/T = Telegraphic Transfer
L/C = Letter of Credit

RoHS = Restriction of Hazardous Substances

UNIT N.W: 15 kgs (Net Weight = 15kgs)

Pretty sure it's 6600 pieces in a 20' (20 foot) shipping container or 13536 pieces in a 40' shipping container.

From what I can see in this they don't tell me how much shipping is? How would I find that out?

Trying to get a total price on this. and I have to convert everything from US$

You really need to try that Google thing.

Ok FOB means that your goods will be delivered by a pop band band called Fall Out Boy. They will drop them to your door, sing a couple of their songs then leave.

OR

It means Free On Board, which means the shipper will pay for the goods to be delivered to Shenzhen and you will have to pay for freight from there.

Oh and Dropship is a clumsy Dipship

A FOB is Fresh Off the Boat, a less-than-flattering way of saying someone is a Pacific Islander.  I doubt this is the application here.

John, remind me to push you off your bike and beat you up next time we meet up for beers...

I would get them to decipher those abbreviations or provide you with a key, so there in no confusion.

That is confusing - looks like there are 24 units per carton, but you wouldn't have a carton that weighed 408kgs...

You generally have to engage a freight forwarder if you're importing in any sort of quantity. They will pick up your goods from Shenzhen and bring them to NZ, deal with customs etc. Generally if you're importing from China the first question will be "how many 20 foot containers do you want?" This is a gross generalisation but still surprisingly common.

For samples if you have a DHL account they'll use that.

T/T or letter of credit is pretty standard and you have to pay this up front so make sure you're confident of your supplier. They generally won't charge you for a couple of samples but you'll still have to pay for your freight.

In simple terms they are advising you the smallest amount they will ship is 6600pc's which is a 20' container load

this will cost you 6600x3.86=USD25476

or alternately if you require RoHS compliance it will cost you USD27004.56 (original cost plus 6%) for 6600pc's

it will take 30 days to make plus shipping time (allow 4~5 weeks depending on shipping line). you will need to pay customs cleanance and delivery of container from wharf to a MAF accredited facility for unpacking )allow $4000~7000 for this.

You will also have to pay GST (15% of NZD value of goods)

It will cost you around about NZD7 per item landed based on buying 6600 of them

As far as payment you will need to pay the USD25K to the manufacturer before they will release the goods to the wharf

It is a simple process in reality but for you probably best to pay an intermediatary/agent to transact deal and arrange freighting

Spin a yarn and you can probably secure the goods for high $2/pc ;)
