Just checked the firstin.co.nz website, and they are advertising Sony MDR-NC40 noise cancelling ear phones for just $80, down from $299.95.

This makes me ask, how can they discount soooo heavily on what is obviously a high-end product (assumed from it's pricing).

So, ran a quick check on amazon....and, you can pick-em up for $63 usd.

There is some outrageous NZ pricing going on here. Why is Sony NZ doing such a huge rip-off on these? No doubt, many less informed will be sucked in.

Even economies of scale does not explain why Sony NZ has such ripoff prices.

I would imagine that $299.95 is the RRP - this doesn't mean anyone actually sells them for this price.

Because almost none of their products are new anymore. They are recertified...ie they had defects and were returned to the manufacturer.

To some people this doesn't matter, they'll still buy them.

To me, it matters, I prefer new :) and for those headphones, I'd buy them off Amazon and use Shipito if they don't offer NZ shipping

This still makes the NZ RRP more than double the USA RRP.

My feeling is that NZ is such a small market , sony doesn't really care , leaving it up to whatever rabble wants to flog their stuff here.

NZ sales might account for .001% of global revenue so why would sony really want to waste time here?

Yeah, I feel a lot of companies do the same thing. I always seem to buy off Amazon for Laptop purchases and gaming products now....

We get overpriced from Sony
Acer products seem to be under specced and can be had for cheaper off Amazon too
HP is overpriced

I think the only thing NZ gets that is priced similarly are Dells. Although the Alienwares aren't

The sony website is the RRP, but the price you pay in stores is often significantly less. Compare the TV prices on the sony website, with what you pay in store.

Yeah sony can set the RRP to whatever they want - it doesn't mean anyone should sell it for that - it's not the brands fault we get overpriced products its the retailers
