So currently I work for a cabling company doing all sorts of cabling and I am also trained on the telecom network. But since I finshed school havent really done much formal training. Have got really interested in networking/it systems and love playing around with things. Am seriously looking at doing the mcse certification (now known as mcitp apparently). Problem is I cant take time off to study as i went and bought a bloody house so have to keep paying the mortgage lol. I stumbled upon seek learning (same as seek jobs) which will allow me to do the complete course online. Also until the end of November they are offering CCNA & CCNP free when you sign up for the MCITP course. What I am wondering is has anyone on here had dealings with them? And secondly, are there other online facilities out there worth a mention (would prefer AU/NZ)? Lastly, have you done these courses and do you think it is better to have a bit of hardware to aid in the learning process?

Thanks in advance,
Sam

Hi Sam,

There are a number of self study options out there, you just have to be the self motivated type to take that route. One of my work colleagues who is a network engineer also teaches CCNA/CCNP at night for those who find it tough to find the time.

If you like more info flick me a PM with some details and I can put him onto you, and I know their prices are a LOT less than AIMES etc.

@th3r3turn - So you still sit the proper MCITP exams and the cert is just as valid as any where else?

Just noticed I have put this in the offers/wanted section. My bad!! Maybe admin's could move it?

Yea the exams are just the same ones if you went somewhere to study them. Cause of my background, i have used Windows server AD in the past, i can understand it a bit more.

If you went to a school/tech place, some just teach you out of the book. to sit the exams just visit prometric.com and book your exam to sit. The cost is about 200$ each i think, but im lucky that my work pays for them (YEA DATACOM). Im starting with the MCITP: Server Administrator Certification

• Two Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) prerequisite exams
• One Professional Series exam

• Required MCTS exams (two exams)
Exam 70-640 Configuring Windows Server® 2008 Active Directory®
Exam 70-642 Configuring Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure

• Professional Series exam (one exam)
Exam 70-646 Windows Server 2008 Administrator

after that ill do the extra exams to get

MCITP: Enterprise Administrator Certification
• Four Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) prerequisite exams
• One Professional Series exam

• Required MCTS exams (four exams)
Exam 70-640 Configuring Windows Server 2008 Active Directory
Exam 70-642 Configuring Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure
Exam 70-643 Configuring Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure
Exam 70-620 Configuring Microsoft Windows Vista Client
or
Exam 70-624 Deploying and Maintaining Windows Vista Client and 2007 Microsoft Office System Desktops

• Professional Series exam (one exam)
Exam 70-647 Windows Server 2008, Enterprise Administrator

but ill do windows 7 and not vista!

Sounds really good! Yea being that I only have hobby experience in terms of servers/routing that site might not be the way to go. We do have a guy at work with mcse so i can always ask him about stuff I cant figure out.
