quickymart: I've also noticed I lose connectivity to anything on my local network when this happens, sigh...

Right, fault logged with Netcomm. Let's see what they say (posting from Vodafone 3G - at least that works reliably!)

If you use connectivity to LAN it's probably the router.

That's what I think too. In a bid to try and resolve it I just performed a factory reinstall. Seems okay so far - but 5 minutes of testing won't really tell me much...

Still getting intermittent drop outs...wife was trying to watch a streaming video on her iPhone this morning over wifi and just lost all connectivity. I logged into the desktop (connected via ethernet) and it all worked for me. Powercycled the router and everything came back to life.

Anyone else still getting this happening?

Thread bump - Netcomm have sent me a beta version of firmware to try with the NF4V. I've installed it just now and it seems to be working okay. The tech guy did warn me it could be buggy - but at this point I'm willing to try anything. Will keep you posted...

I've also seen what are possibly Apple related issues with this device, but the reality is Apple are causing all sorts of grief with WiFi gear from many manufacturers these days. Most new Apple products are not WiFi alliance certified so are therefore not guaranteed to be fully compatible with the WiFi standard as we know it.

Also for what it's worth I have no apple devices in the house (that use wifi). I have been using whatever firmware build I could get my hands on. I was running R5B017 for quite a while and that too was stable for me.

I had version 17 when I first got it and it went fine, then I upgraded to 19 and it started dropping the DNS all the time. Trying with version 20 at the moment (a beta version).

GURNV5.OT132A-8-NC.AU-R5B019.EN apart from the NC.AU bit it looks to be the same firmware that Orcon use in their supplied NF4V's of which I use one and have found it very stable infact the only reason mine is sitting at 38Days uptime is from a power cut otherwise both wired/wireless works perfectly (no crapple devices here)

I would say that if the new firmware does not fix the problem then you have a faulty device and it needs to be returned

I have also found that not using my ISP's DNS servers is the best thing I've done I use OpenDNS servers : 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222

I've been using 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.2 - with no noticeable change. Easiest way for me to tell if there is a problem is to try and load Facebook's page - if there's a problem, I'll get the "Server not found...Firefox can't find the server..." and then I know it's a fault, because how often is Facebook down?

PBTech said they couldn't simply swap it out, I think they require something from Netcomm first, and they would need to send it away and test it before doing anything. So I'm not sure what I can do.

However, unless this is sorted, this is probably the last Netcomm product I buy - a pity, as I've been using their stuff since the Dynalink dialup modem days...

PBtech sound like they're trying to shirk their warranty obligations the CGA states if it's not doing what it's supposed to be doing ( fit for purpose ) then you have the right of repair swap or refund

Depending on your ISP it could also be the worst thing you've ever done.

While the major issues with 3rd party DNS servers aren't quite as bad as they were a couple of years ago, they still pose major problems for CDN's, and having a DNS server that's a mimimum of 45ms away (assuming they're in Sydney which OpenDNS and Google are) rather than a few ms for your ISP can cause noticeable slowdowns during browsing.
