If he talked to the residents, he would suggest they got mobile phones, but for those without a helper, there were barriers.
"They need a cellphone they can read – they need to know how to operate them ... then there's the cost."
1. A phone is a phone, size is not that disimilar between a LL handset and a mobile handset
2. Read? The number pad on my smartyphone is clearer than on my now redundant LL handset
3. Operate? Probably easier to teach how to make and recieve calls on a smartphione than if the user changed brands on a LL handset
4. Cost. Don't need an iPhone or Galaxy, just get a capable 4" smartphone on 24 months interest free. Are LL handsets free?? No.
Bottom line, the user of a base smartphone thats just used for calling won't be paying $65 a month as they are now. If they make large number of calls, maybe they will pay $65, so no difference
I feel too many people percieve a computery device is hard. And articles like this don't help, it implies simple vs technology, wheras its actually simple vs also simple
Don't even need a smart phone. My parents got one that only does texting, and calls only and has buttons on it bigger then most landline ones.
Think they got it from the warehouse for around $50
