Yeah I know, I realised that what I posted wouldn't work after I posted, but couldn't be bothered editing it again

Anyone got pictures of what an overhead install looks like in terms of how do they run the fibre to the ETP once its been attached to your house?

All I'm doing is speculating so will cross that bridge when it comes.

Electrical conduit is sized by OD. The question should be why Chorus 20mm conduit is a different sizing convention instead of just being a different colour. It's around 27mm OD so closer to 25mm electrical conduit.

Chorus green conduit has the same dimensions as 20 mm pressure pipe. That's where the 20 mm nominal size stamped on it comes from.

Water pipe is ID....

Really the question should be why is electrical conduit sized by OD when you want to pass something through the inside.... Anyway - Bunning sells the orange conduit by the electrical convention of OD.

Edit: The whole business of pipe diameters is pretty haphazard.

Our PVC water pipes are spec on ID

BSP has varying sizes or spec'd on OD and ID.

Orange electrical conduit is spec'd on OD in the smaller sizes and ID on very large sizes.

All a bit complicated and getting a bit off topic :-)

I don't think the example you've linked to there is a very typical overhead install. This one is more like the ones I've seen: here.

The cable coming out the ETP will be either going through the cladding into the house (as in this photo), heading down into the subfloor, or heading back up to the roof space.

It does seem a little strange that Chorus will run the cable down to an ETP, just to then run it all the way back up into the roof space. It unfortunately also tends to look a bit ugly.

This Chorus document suggests that they will install a 'high' ETP when heading back up into the roof space. Not sure exactly what that means, but the installs I've seen tend to have the ETP low to the ground, even when heading back up into the roof.

My own fibre install is overhead and via the roof space. I actually installed some conduit running from the soffit to the ONT location inside. The technician decided to install the lead-in without an ETP, so it is just a single run all the way from the pole to the ONT. But, I don't think that's at all standard, and may not be an option that is even offered.

All electrical conduit is sized on OD, and it makes sense when you consider threaded fittings, saddles etc. Water pipe (which Chorus uses) is sized on ID for some strange reason (what size hole do I need?, what size saddles? what thread size for plain-screw adaptor?).
