mikenzb: @Hio & Jase, What areas are you guys at? I'm still thinking it might have been the bad weather.

Mangere Bridge, my resync was caused by the modem loosing power.

will be interesting to see if having it plugged in through the ups changes the sync speed

Had a resync and looks like I'm still on 56mbps on a 17a profile. Oh well.....

hi,

So I've just got a new fritzbox 7390, it seems that when snap send them out there is nothing the end user can do e.g change the snr

exporting and editing, no worky
recover the fritzbox, no worky
downgrade fritzOS, no worky

so I guess the new fritzboxes that get handed out cant be tinkered with.

the only way is to Jtag it and reflash with vanilla firmware..... but i was just wondering if anyone else found that they cant do much with their routers. it would save me from pulling the unit to bits...

thats a little extreme.. theres one file you have to replace to roll the bootloader back, i looked into it awhile back.

risky enough that i decided not to do it however.

yes im not only talking about rolling it back, its the fact one cant change the snr due to snap having a default firmware.

I have previously attempted to adjust the SNR on my frtizbox via web interface and this resulted in me not having net for over a week, due to the port having a kitten (Snap ended up sending out a techie to diagnose the issue and he reset the port).

Question is does the "Optimal Tweaking Procedures" steps prevent this from happening?
Reason been I would like to tweak it not for speed sadly but to improve stability, as i currently get ~17m down 10m up, if i get > 17.1 the connection is totally unusable, pages take forever to load, images error etc.
When I get less than 17.1 everything runs smoothly and fast, but getting this speed takes far to many restarts of the router and sadly only lasts a day before jumping up again.

Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated.

i suspect, this is a case where you dont actually understand the process at which you are tweaking and simply wildly tweaking.

if you tweak your connection too far, you risk errors being so high that your hardware needs to deal with it beyond the point that it can manage.

if you have taken your fritz to this point, and rebooted many times, i would not be surprised if you have also completely shafted the DLM profile your on.

as your fritz killed your linecard, i suspect you were tweaking on something over 5.22, inwhich you need to use the command line commands, this has a bug where the fritz doesnt nicely drop the DSL port before tweaking. due to the fact that SRA isnt active, a resync is needed to achieve this.

what the leads to, is if you can, you unplug your line, for a few hours, and often it will clear it. otherwise a tech will need to come out, and manually reboot your linecard, as it will be unresponsive to remote techs. because of this you need to be rather careful, whenever you tweak, unplug your dsl line first, tweak, then plug it back in.

i suspect i may have missread slightly, and your using the gui? which only allows you to snr tweak, backwards.

please post your DSL stats, along with your specturm, i want see what this is all looking like.

I left it on the stock settings and only after a month or more i think i decided that it was ridiculous and to attempt to fix it or go back to adsl.

The wild tweaking I done was change them all from maximum performance to maximum stability.

You right I was on 5.22, recent updated so am on 6.06 now.

When i had the issue one of the things i tried was leave it disconnected over night so ~12 hrs, didn't seem to help.

The following settings are current and what i consider unstable/error prone, took 45 seconds to load the page.

urm... you do have a filter installed right? your spectrum doesnt look healthy at all.

at 22dB you cant expect all that much, but it still looks like its taking more hits than it should.

i suspect your issues your having, is IPv6 packet size issues. try turning that off and see if it makes an improvement.

Yeah, got a Telecom in wall (permanently) installed Filter.

Yeah the 22dB is due to the fact i am at the fringe of allowed distance, and have always had a bad line, but at least it use to be usable.

Turned off IPv6 and so far it appears to be way better, but surely this is not a solution, as IPv6 is where we suppose to be going?

I'll leave it off for a few days (one should be enough to prove it a problem or not) and see how it goes.

there seems to be a bit of problem with IPv6 for some people, there is another fix mentioned, dropping your MTU down to fix it too. which you could go with.

IPv6 is really hit and miss though, personally, for the whole time i have been with snap, my v6 has been rock solid.

wow AtomiclyCursed you have the same specs as me but yet my connection is alot lower than yours.

naked vdsl with a filter....
800 Meters from the exchange by road.
300 Meters from the exchange as the crow flies.

quality of copper in the area, interferance etc. your lines more what ild expect for a line out of distance.

quite a obvious sharp slope as its gaining distance (after the ADSL range). AtomiclyCurseds line however is a bit more erratic..
