I have Fiber 30Mbps so have obtained 3.0-3.3MB/sec in actual transfer speed off MS with the Win8.1 Preview ISO. What sort of actual transfers are you guys getting with a 100Mbps connection?

Real world speeds, I can get 12MB/s down from our Snap 100/50 UFB connection

dude are you talking MBps or Mbps?? there is an 8-fold difference + signal overhead loss

3MBps = 24Mbps which would be nearly about right

I am on 30Mbps connection (fiber) and I get 3.0-3.3 MegaBYTES (big B) per sec off a actual download. Yep ... I was just interested in the actual transfer speed from a single download re: 100Mbps. But then I wonder ... about countries like Japan. If they have a 1,000Mbps connection do they transfer at 120MB/sec?? Or does it get capped somewhere or that the servers are not quick enough. Provided the client computer is SSD etc.....

Not all servers can provide as much throughput as we have seen here, most limit per connection to save their own performance, dont be surprised if 90% of the internet cannot supply you with as little as 5Mb/s max throughput.

i copied some files across from a desktop to a SAN in the 1Gbps LAN in the office the other day, network usage hit 980Mbps - around 110MB/sec.

That was unusual though - normally desktop computers can't read/write from their disks that fast... and the SAN is normally a bit busier. the typical transfer runs around 60MB/sec to 80MB/sec.

Take this model to the internet and, without using caching, its easy to see that real world throughput is going to take a bit of a hit.

i wouldn't blame the servers, i'd blame the intermediate hops. even a very low end pc can do gigabit transfer speeds now days.

it used to be before pci express, and pci-x that it was difficult. but it's been easy for the last 8 years or thereabouts.

that said, it completely depends on the carrier. i imagine japan is good as telecom seem to peer with ntt in australia, and ntt are likely to maintain good connection between australia and japan and are the many japanese carrier.

ah. now we're talking. it appears no one has answered your question ... I am not lucky enough to get UFB or VDSL2
