A friend wants to move to UFB. He's currently on VDSL via Vodafone.

He would like to retain his router above because of complex routing rules and because it's a good router and WiFi AP.

Anybody suggest which ISP's he could use?  I think Bigpipe might be okay and possibly Spark. Not sure about Vodafone since do they provide fibre in Wellingotn when they have cable available also?

Any other ISP suggestions?

Thanks

It will work with 100% of RSP's in NZ. You will just receive zero support from any RSP usijng non supported hardware.

Could just keep the supplied router so if you have issues with your connection you can get support.

He can stay with Vodafone and just connect his Router to the ONT box and you don't have to use a modem. With Vodafone you can just connect via DHCP when you set it up. But before Vodafone I was with Slingshot and had to connect via PPPoE. You only need a router and don't need a modem anymore with UFB.

I'm using an R7000 with Advanced Tomato with no issues.

Anyone here tried it out with Fresh Tomato?

I use a ASUS RT-AC66u Router Setup Guide with BigPipe. Not sure about supported or not but they do have a guide for it.  There is no guide for the Netgear though but it should be easy enough.

ISP might charge for the modem unless you sign up for a one year contract.

Currently with Vodafone with UFB and have a R7000 running AdvancedTomato and works tip top, except when the Vodafone DNS server does what the Vodafone DNS server does

Using Fresh Tomato here on R7000 with Orcon and typically get over 900/450

Just tested on nPerf and got 921/535, on Ookla only 850/530...not bad considering the current situation.

Did you migration from Tomato or Advanced Tomato to Fresh Tomato?

I'm considering a switch, but I've got a reasonably sweet configuration at present.
