I bought new flat last week and let my brother lives with flatmates.

Since the flatmates are poor & restless young souls, they couldn't afford more than $90/month for their internet/phone access.

First I planed move my broadband plan (GO Large) to the flat and join new broadband plan for me.

Worked? Nah...

Telecom wouldn't able to "MOVE" my broadband plan to another place, unless move broadband and telephone altogether, (causes loss of my phone number at home and days of disconnection)

So I try to join "Naked DSL" option to my new flat,

Worked? Nah...

Since the flat isn't wired telephone line yet, no other provider could provide naked DSL.

I have to join Telecom(or other big provider could do the actual wiring) phone line, then call naked DSL provider to give telecom user account number and switch it.

Ironically, in order to use naked DSL, I have to join telephone line and issued the number.

Fianlly, I want to make toll-bar on the telephone (or VOIP) so, no flatmate abuse the phone line with naughty 0900 numbers.

Worked? Nah...

It seems no ISP so far provide user toll-bar service except Telecom which costs me $2.75/month (Please let me know if any other provider may provide this service, I havn't look entire provides yet, may be Telstra?)

So conclusion?

I joined Telecom phone line as well as "Go" broadband plan, which apperently showed maxed usage limit within 12 hour of connection by one of flatmate.

Now I have to call Telecom to begging cancel my broadband and join other broadband plan from another ISP which offers unlimited downloading during off-peak hours, although it would slower but still faster than throttled speed.

And there will be internet black-out for transition period which (hopely) lasts a week.

Wish me luck that I can cancel Telecom broadband account without harsh penalty...

Hi

You can get a permanent toll bar installed, but it cost $45. Otherwise call track will allow toll calls, but the phone must be 'unlocked' and when tolls are billed you can see who made them.

You can also get a 'free' toll bar from Telecom if you let your account go late then ring and ask them, they'll do it without paying any fee's :)

$45, just for a service order! hmm, they used to charge a penalty if you repeatedly put one on and took it off, didn't realize it was a fixed charge now! I better check my last bill as they put one on briefly as I was moving house.

Not many other options for blocking tolls apart from sending your direct-dial tolls somewhere where the sun don't shine, of course anyone smart could just dial 059 and the calls would go back through t'com (and be charged accordingly) anyway.
