Okay, I am new to forums, though lurker for a while, so please be gentle with me. (But I am donning my flameproof suit anyway!)
We have been on a Telecom Mobile Broadband (t-stick) account for a year or so but keep getting stung by low GB limit (2 GB), with consequent overage costs. We still have one year to go on Tstick (the old one, not new XT one) and it is useful when partner travels for business so no plans to eat the cancellation costs of $185.
However, am trying to talk my partner into getting Broadband at home (instead of using Tstick) and the Telecom Total Home package seems a good choice considering we already pay for landline ($45 or so a month) and then $20 + more for tolls/mobile calls, etc.) and also have Paradise $10 dialup for backup when Tstick not here. So total cost wouldn't be too much more right now.
BUT (and here is where I am hoping not to get flamed), the overall vibe I pick up when I look at Geekzone and other forums is that one should not be letting oneself get talked into long contracts. And I guess my questions is why? I know the govt. keeps talking about cheaper, faster landline, but frankly, that seems to have been going on for a couple of years with little change for consumers. Is something really coming down the pipeline within the next 2 years that will make me regret it if I got for the current Telecom offer of free wireless modem with 24 month Total Home Contract?
If I hear something from any of you people who seem well informed in all this, then I would be willing to wait and/or maybe just do the 12 months Total Home (which I think would mean I would have to pay $100 for the Thomson Modem). But I am getting really sick of the Tstick at home or worse, the dreaded dialup, so am getting a little desperate for change.
Thanks in advance for any comments/suggestions.
