Hi all
I'm feeling a bit like the 'forgotten child' when it comes to the whole cabinetisation process. There are those who are being upgraded to cabinets, and those who are not. Then there are those of us who are connected directly to their exchange.
Those not getting cabinetised (eg rural customers) know where they stand, so they have nothing to hold out for.
Those going onto cabinets can visit http://www.chorus.co.nz/cabinet-notices to track the progress of their upgrade. Although the cabinet migration sheets say they are updated weekly, they are in fact updated a lot more frequently than that. Those going onto cabinets also get the telltale influx of chorus vans parked beside their soon to be new cabinet, and the giveaway white tent placed over the cabinet while it is in the process of being upgraded. It's easy to tell when things are progressing.
But those who are connected to an exchange don't get any indication of where they sit in the schedule, other than that offered on the Telecom Wholesale website. One of our customers in Levin is in this situation. Their exchange was meant to be upgraded in September, but there is no way of knowing whether it has been done or not. You can't read a spreadsheet from Chorus' website or look for white vans or tents as you drive past.
Has anyone found a way to tell when an exchange upgrade is actually due to happen, and when it is complete (other than checking DSL stats on their router every day!)?
Richard
