I am looking for a new ADSL router/modem, please offer suggestions based upon these features:

Good future proofing in it ie ADSL2 compatibility
Fast and reliable
Good security features
Strong P2P Bit torrent funcionality
Fixed wiring, wireless not required.
VOIP not necessary.
4 port hub

I have used an alcatel speedtouch pro to date and very happy with it but am looking for something that can reach my 3.5Mbps cap on speedtest (I can get 3.5Mbps on a Dlink 502T modem Telecom gave me, but its a bit flakey in other areas whereas the STP seems to max at about 1.5Mbps when it technical papers say max down of 8Mbps).

PPP half bridge is a great feature, keep an eye out for modem-routers that support it. NAT can be a PITA.

Loki, the Linksys model only connects 2 pcs, what about this Linksys AG241? need 4 port hub

Sorry, must have missed that.. Personally I think it’s a better idea to run your machines to a switch and have the modem attached to that. You can pick up 5-8 port switches for around $30-$50 these days. Yeah the AG241 is a good choice, and it’s around $30-$40 dollars dearer so it’s really “6 of one, half a dozen of the other”. But personally I would go with the switch.

Hmm ok, any particular reason why.. to me it seems just extra devices to communicate between each other, more wires under the desk, more power sockets filled for no real gain etc, or is there?

Hello

Tried a few like Linksys, Dlink, Netgear, dynalink etc and the most secure and value for money is the Dicky XH1175 ADSL Router.

Has a built in firewall and 10/100 Mbps swith plug and play no drivers and just works a treat. Great user web interface. The Firewall is the best feature and hides commen ports from hacking. Works ok on the P2P networks with all firewall options on.

Look it up highly recomended.
