I am having difficulties getting my Linksys wireless router (WRT54GL with stock firmware at this stage) to access the internet through the Dynalink RTA1320 modem which came with my Orcon broadband account. I connected everything up and ran the linksys install CD, but when it comes time to test the internet connection it fails. The install program autodetects DHCP and asks me to specify domain and host names. I don't have any setup info from Orcon and so am unsure about the settings I should be using here - does anyone have any experience with this? I have tried leaving the fields blank, and have tried using "RTA1320" and "home" which are the host and domain settings currently used by the modem - neither works. Should I even be using DHCP?
From a few forum searches I have seen that the problem might be a conflict between the modem acting as a router, and the wireless also trying to act as a router. If this is the issue then how do I force the modem to just act as a modem, letting the wrt54gl do the routing bit?
I am a home user, new to networking and don't really know what I am doing! Any suggestions would be appreciated.
