Is there anybody here using VDSL2 in half bridge mode at all? If so what modem are you using and have you had any issues with it at all?

VDSL2 is using PPPoE so no need for PPPoA half bridge hackery, just standard full bridging which is available in practically every modem/router ever... and a PPPoE client for the WAN in your other router/firewally/gateway.

Using Full Bridging here with no problems. The modem suggested by our ISP is quite expensive though, its some Thompson with VOIP ports, wireless N, USB, gigabit Ethernet etc. that really is just there to bridge VDSL2 =S

Cheers.. Is anything special configuration required for the Thomson?

Nope, its a crappy UI (so no idea how your meant to use the built in features lol) but just follow the configuration wizard for bridge. I got my ones from Connect Play in Ellerslie:

www.connectplay.co.nz

They come preconfigured for NZ settings so all can be done it 1 min. The model you want is: TG789n

Apparently there is a Zyxel model also worth checking.

Yes the Zyzel VDSL Routers can just bridge the connection out the ethernet and all you do is run any PPPoE client and get the real world address on the device being the PPPoE Client. I've set up quite a number like this with no problems at all

Can you tell me what device you're using as your router? It looks like it can be done with TomatoUSB + some command line work, however if you've found another device which PPPoE clients supports vlans I'm keen to hear about it.

The device terminating the PPPoE doesn't need to do VLANs at all.

The Zyxel will take VLAN 10 from the VDSL and then output as access on the ethernet of the Zyxel. I used a Mikrotik  as a normal PPPoE client to terminate the PPPoE with no problems at all. It just works. You just have to make sure the Zyxel is set up correctly (remove any config from the GUI and set up as VCMUX Bridge with VLAN 10) as default they are set up to terminate the PPPoE rather than just Bridge.

Thanks,

Got the CellPipe 7130 going with TomatoUSB (e4200) in full bridge mode, but the wireless speed on that is 1/3 of the speed of the LAN ports. Now to get it working with my Smoothwall box and use the e4200 as a AP.

There is of course the Vigor2750 ;)

Otherwise, +1 for the ZyXEL.

Yeah, work colleague bought that but with wireless too, it's a little pricey. My ZyXEL should arrive any day now. Also managed to fix the weird wireless speed issue so should be all set... despite my less than stellar line sync rates.

Yeah the 2750 is a full-blown Linux router so a bit overkill if you're just bridging with it.

I'd love to see a VDSL version of the Vigor120 :)

I believe Netcomm are bringing something out in a similar price range to that for VDSL, so should fill the gap the RTA1320 filled for ADSL.

My ZyXEL has arrived, will get to play with it shortly ;)
