Office 2013 with office 365 with custom domain. I also use the Office 365 web access email when away from home.
In my opinion something using a custom domain would stand out then a generic one.

Have used Outlook since Outlook 98 now on Outlook 2013 have always thought it worked brilliantly with my mainly exchange based accounts. The only things I have found a bit clunky are IMAP accounts with its need to have a local folder set.

Office 365 now comes with Outlook so no need to be without and the Office 365 Outlook Web App works pretty well too.

For the last year or so I have been using roundcube (and gmail for gmail), the reasons being two:

1. I have 25 thousand messages in my main imap inbox alone, and probably 4 to 5 times that in total, thunderbird was progressively becoming more and more slow and brittle
2. since I need to access from multiple locations/devices anyway, might as well just use webmail on all of them, one interface, one address book, no setup...

I do use k9 for one smaller account on my phablet, simply because I need it to alert me when messages come into it, which I can't do with a webmail system.

I used to use an ISP email address and a non web based email "client" back in the 90's......

I've been using web based gmail for at least the last 5 years, I used to use Mail on mac but it isn't great.

Only email application I use is Gmail on android.

Custom domain gmail is great and just works once set up

For work - Outlook 2010/2013 - exchange back-end.

Otherwise - gmail with inbox. I have an outlook.com that redirects there. I also have a google apps account for my consulting business (with domain) that links there - I can reply from either address.

I use Thunderbird on my Laptop/PC to tie together email addresses from four different providers. I use a NAS to store the emails but like James am finding Thunderbird (which hasn't been in development for a few years now) is getting increasingly flaky so I am starting think of moving away from it.

I also use K9 Mail on my android to see everything that's coming into these email accounts when I'm out and about. However, K9 doesn't have the ability to access the emails stored on the NAS which means I can't dig historical stuff out if/when needed. I had a play with Aqua Mail a while back - that was a good app with some useful features but it wasn't quite enough to make me jump from K9.

I have Outlook on the PC at home, same at work.
Home one gets my Outlook.com based email on my domain. Work one gets exchange based work emails.
iPhone gets work and home emails.
iPads and Wife's iPHone get the Outlook.com email.

Everything syncs up nicely, and I can see if she has replied to someone and vice-versa.

I use Airmail on OSX. The native mail client often struggles, and this is the best alternative I've found so far.

I have two gmail accounts and an Exchange one to monitor, and this is still the best way for me to do this.

Have a Outlook custom domain
Outlook 2013 at home, Outlook app on Android and Outlook.com via work
Pulls in my ISP emails (Clear.net, Orcon and Snap) as well (90% spam now)

Prefer to use Outlook 2010/13 to compose an email rather than the other methods.

Also have a Gmail - mostly use the phone to check and webpage to compose

Thunderbird on the desktop and laptop PC's, K9 mail on the android devices.

I use thunderbird to move old mail from my webhosts imap store to gmail since I am paying for a TB of google space it makes more sense to use that and keep the imap on the webhost fast and not syncing a tonne to the portable devices.

Use windows mail for small 7" tablet
Gmail app on phone

Also have a outlook.co.nz address that is used for my home security system (different notifications sounds and LED) and have set that up to be pushed to the gmail app on my phone.

I use Outlook 2013 on laptop and surface, use Nine for android (bloody good mail app and I have been testing a few).

I used to use GMail a few years ago but I don't like how long it takes to log in and check anything via pop (given the latency between every command sent to and from).

I have my own domain and email addresses now and the server is in New Zealand. I use outlook on my PC and whatever the default mail pop client is on my Samsung mobile or iPod Touch. Even with SSL enabled, it's still nice and quick to download attachments locally than from a server overseas.

I also like to know everything I do isn't searched and scanned for targeted advertising etc...

I'm not a fan of web or vendor specific app based access. It's just to much p'ing around for me.

I would love to use Outlook, but it doesn't play nice with Gmail at all. Gone to Thunderbird or just use the Gmail web app.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Gmail web on my chromebook to access my 4 email addresses (my own domain, a free-for-life ISP email and 2 gmail addresses). Means I can get them on my phone, tablet, PC or chromebook.
