So no 5700x to replace my 3700x? That's not wonderful. I have to stump up a serious lump of cash to get to a 5800x!

Anyone here using Ryzen as a Virtualization Lab?  I am wondering about replacing an aging i5, with 16GB with something with 32GB and a much much lower power consumption and physically smaller than the Mid ATX I have now.

I had an i5-6500 machine running Win10 and Sighthound, CPU utilisation sat around 11%. I virtualised this onto an UnRaid NAS  running on an AMD 3600x machine. The Sighthound VM is still reporting 11%.

I also have an Opnsense VM and 20 odd dockers running, according to UnRaid the 3600x is at around 9%.

Power wise it sits at 50 watts

The old 3600x is a great CPU for vitualisation, these new ones would be pretty capable.

I've found an appropriate cooling solution for Zen3 processors!

(ignore the words, was from a meme page)

Ryzen all run hot, but they're designed to go to 95 degrees and they throttle about 90 degrees. The stock cooler is ok, slightly loud and effective enough for light to moderate use.

Ryzen seem to run a bit hotter than Intel. The i7 10700 limits at 90C but tends to run about 70 degrees at full load according to what I can find, whereas AMD seems happy for Ryzen to run at 90 - 95C. I wonder if that affects the lifespan. It's partly why I'm going for better cooling on my new build.

the i7 10700 doesn't come with a stock cooler though so you are always going to be comparing apples with oranges.
