Hi team. Not too sure where to post this. I have a SanDisk Cruzer Fit 8GB USB storage device.
When I plug it in it shows I have 450 megs of space. No matter what I do, I can't see / find any data on it. I have tried to format it and also tried 2 other pc's, same result. Any ideas ? Thanks.

No its the real deal. Sorry I should have said, its not the first plug in. It has shown 8 Gb in the past. It did have approx 6 gb in use and then I cleared all that off. It sat on my desk for a couple of weeks and now has this problem.

Have you tried the HP USB format tool on this drive?
Search for a name something like HPUSBFW*.zip or HPUSBFW*.exe

It performs a low level format, while the regular windows format might simply trust the information presented to it from the drive.

if it's functioning probably has hidden files

right click on the drive and click properties and see how many files are present

if no files present go to my computer right click select manage go to storage, disk management and quickformat fat32 (dont format the wrong drive)

Open Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Disk Management and select the disk/partition to remove. Make sure you select the correct one, otherwise you might end up with a dead system.

Remember to always have a backup!

Wouldn't a USB drive normally have a partition?
In other words, the USB is setup as USB-HDD.

Unless it's superfloppy format ... or perhaps even USB-ZIP (emulating a ZIP drive with partition 4?).

I had another look at the HPUSBFW.exe

You can extract HPUSBFW.exe from sp55500.exe which can be downloaded from the HP web site.

Just extract the files - don't update your BIOS.... don't worry, you will get an option to extract the files to c:\SWsetup\sp55500 and can exit before it attempts to install to BIOS.

Or just unpack as follows (assuming you downloaded sp55500.exe to C:\Temp )

C:\Temp>sp55500.exe -e -f C:\Temp\sp55500 -s

Then run HPUSBFW.exe to format the USB.

If HPUSBFW.exe complains that you need to be administrator under Win7, then start a command prompt using "Run as administrator" then run HPUSBFW.exe from the command prompt.
