Im looking for a KVM which can be placed inline with everything, to allow remote control from a remote location (IP based) but also still allow input from the machine itself without any extra configuration each time.

Is anyone aware of such a product? This is proving quite difficult!

Could you elaborate on what you mean by input from the machine itself? Also what is the application?

Most of the servers these days have IPMI, iLo etc. built in to the motherboard although I appreciate you may not be controlling a server!

To give you an idea, its a solution proposed for our PCI-DSS implementation.

So basically, these machines are not connected to our network at all to limit our domains PCI exposure. So to manage them currently, we would have to physically visit the machine, sit in front of it, and do whatever we needed.
I was hoping that we could use an IP KVM, to connect to a network and remotely administer the PC (as most of my team is actually based of our Australia).

So while I need to remotely administer it, there will be people physically at the machine every now and then (business users/no technical knowledge) who will need to use it.

Hopefully that makes a little more sense.... For this application we are using Lenovo M92p's (Tiny), so physical cards for the computers are gonna' be a no-go.

Yeah I did see that one, but what does "At the rack access" actually mean? My understanding was that it was only accessable "at-the-rack" via the serial port, which won't be of any use really for us... am I reading that right?

Just having a think about this...

I wonder if I put in an IP KVM, then get a VGA splitter, split the signal in two, one going to the KVM and one going to the screen locally, then plug in the USB's as per normal, and the USB from the KVM as well.

Surely that would work? Seems overly complicated though, surely others have needed a solution like this...

Hmm I feel this is overcomplicating things a bit for what you're actually needing. Why not just have a local network without internet access, disable file sharing over that network, set all IP's statically and just have VNC servers on each and remotely connect to them via a jumphost?

Problem is, both of the PC's require internet access. (trust me, don't ask... I've argued with the team over this numerous times). We could easily achieve the same result by using other methods, but they're "not approved" apparently.

I'll try have a chat with the project manager for PCI about this... I'll also contact raritan and see if this product fits the bill.
