Hi all

I have a 512GB Samsung 840 SSD which I bought dirt cheap because it had some read/write issues. Storage drives, as far as I know have 3-5 years warranty but Samsung NZ wants the proof of purchase to replace it.
I have found out that this drive was actually removed from an Apple Macbook Pro which has passed its warranty period and no idea about its proof of purchase.

Its been sitting as a paperweight for a couple of months now. Before I throw it away, do you guys have some tips or tricks I could try?

I have obviously tried docking it thru a USB HDD dock and also connecting it to the secondary HDD bay on my laptop. It wasn't getting detected at all. Im ruling out any Firmware flashing as this doesn't show up in an operating system. Any suggestions

Dead as can be unfortunately.HAd a similiar thing happen to me with a samsung ssd.By any chance if your going to bin it could i have it?

AFAIK Apple don't use Samsung drives so it was likely installed in replacement of the HDD that came with the Mac, not preinstalled if that's what you were assuming

Have you tried the freezer, dishwasher, microwave, popcorn maker and George Foreman Lean Mean Grillin' Machine? If the internet has taught us anything, it's that improperly-used kitchen appliances can solve all hardware related issues.

Oh, OK...Didn't know that. Tough luck then. I was hoping of some roundabout way to flash the firmware of 'almost bricked' HDD. Who knows at times, these OEM's recall a batch of components due to known faults. It was 512GB so really didn't want to trash it.

Mores seriously, there seem to be a couple of forum threads on google saying something about putting a jumper on the pins at the back. Do you have any pins to jump?

That reminds me of the HP Pavillion DV6 and DV7 with AMD processors. No display but fans and light on. Wouldnt beleive what all uses an Oven would have? Motherboard in, 7-8 minutes inside a preheated oven, laptop would get 6-8 months of extra life. It was suggested as an DIY reballing method.LOL

Even if you do revivie it, it is unlikely to be good enough reliability wise.

If it shows in the BIOS try the Samsung Magician software. If the bios cant see it then Id give up.
