Hey there
Speaking of most people out there, not into games, just the admin side of things.
I don't doubt there are better stuff out there with price to match. But if CPU selection and fancy video cards is not a need does it matter?
In the past there was a belief that people were suggested to buy Intel or 3Com/US Robotics dialup/lan cards, Creative Labs or Turtlebeach (?) sound cards but nowadays many of those same people are content with maybe the Realtek equipment that is supplied free on the mainboard. After some hassle with the real IT shops, I just went out to DSE and bought a D-Link modem router due to their excellent refund policy, it works, speed is great, wireless reception is good, going on for the full day.
I'll admit it too, we've always had cheap PSU b/c that was included in the case, one of the PCs I put together for admin stuff again was a cheapier (i-Cute) but on mine was a Antec case/PSU. I've used cheap ones before which hasn't failed apart from one when I just turned it on ... they have always worked for a good few years (3-4yrs) until I disposed of it at eDay. Like we had AMD 200Mhz in 1997 which we only disposed of in 2005 (the case/PSU was taken from our 386 *1992). The AMD system was a AT/ATX board so we chose to use the AT power connectors to save some dosh.
Most people are non-IT, they may well just buy PCs and laptops from Dell or appliance stores. Surely if so many people are buying them they cannot be that astronomically bad. Apart from they might be bloated with software which might make them a bit slow but it still gets the typical person's job done at the end of the day.
