hey guys not sure if this is the right forum but il put it here since it has to do with computers.

I want to know how i can connect a electric guitar upto the computer so that i can record straight from the guitar to my computer? How can i achieve this?

I would be interested to know this too!

I think if you plug your axe into your amp with a normal guitar lead, and then plug a cable with a normal guitar line-in on one end into the line-out on the amp and a minijack on the other end into the microphone input on your computer in might work.

So the sound signal goes: Guitar>Amp... Amp>Computer

Or I may be way off target there haha, either way let me know if you get it working!

Do the above if you have an amp and you want to get that same sound. Might be tricky to get the levels right.

Alternatively, cheapest option get an adaptor to jack the guitar lead straight into the soundcard mic socket. It will probably work ok.

There are some cheap usb guitar adaptors around. Worth a shot if your machine can handle it.

As well, plenty of professional stuff around when you want to start spending money.

I have tried doing it this way (lineout from the amp into PC sound card). It does work, but with the guitar the speakers are an important part of the tone, so be prepared for a different sound.

It works a bit better for bass, especially if you have active electronics. In the studio they normally take a clean feed anyway (direct from the bass, no amp) as one of the tracks to mix in.

You can also apply amp simulation to a clean feed in protools etc.

If you don't have the cash for Pro Tools or Cubase, Audacity is your best bet.

If you connecting the guitar directly to the line in on the PC it may not have the same affect as a proper amp as thats part of what makes an electric guitar sound good.
