I have install the system win7 into a wrong hard drive (the second hard drive in my PC, put media file, photos in there).

And the win7 formatted the disk ( not finished, I stopped it in half way). And when restart my computer, it fix the wrong disk automatically.

Now my second disk shows : unformat disk

How am I suppose to recovery my data? It has almost 6 years photo collection and lot of files in it.

Please help this. Thanks a lot.

To be honest if you have to ask how to recover data and it is very important data then you should probably take the pc to a professional.
If you muck around with it you will make it harder to recover and more expensive.

if you in auckland and you cant find anyone to do it for you, send me a PM. my company does data recovery on occassion

you might want to get a few quotes it can be quite pricey, much more than say... the cost of backing it up :)

6 years worth of photos that are obviously irreplaceable...and you don't have a backup? Hmmmm

Lesson learnt the hard way it seems.

I am with the others, go pro.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Take the drive out put it in another computer and scan it with something like Recuva (below), you can do various levels of scans with differing results.

The reason you want to do this in another machine while not running off the drive as the more you run the OS on the drive the more deleted sectors you are overwriting with new data.

Go buy an external 2TB USB drive like WD Elements ~ $180, copy what you recover to the external USB drive.

In future use the USB drive to keep a backup of your important files.

Get Data Back works really well too.

But as said, a pro is your best option.
