I hate to be a pest but can you give me detailed instructions from a flattened PocketPC??????

My AP is not secured at all at this point and I need to get this done so I can get it secured in the end.

Yes, that's what I can think of now:

- Start | Settings | Connections | Network Cards | Network Adapters and select the wireless adapter. Make sure it's configured to "The Internet", not Work. If it's configured as Work it will aks for a proxy - that's the wrong path.

- Start | Settings | Connections | Network Cards | Network Adapters and select the wireless adapter. Make sure it's configured to use server-assigned IP address

- - Start | Settings | Connections | Network Cards | Wireless and delete the current configuration for this connection. Tap and hold the wireless network and select Remove Settings. This will force it to create a new one when the network is found again.

- Download VxUtil. It's free. Use it to see the Connection Information. If your connection does not have a gateway or DNS server then there was problem assigning this information and most likely on your DHCP server.

OK I had to reconnect also (whish was not mentioned) and then after I did I rebooted to allow adapter to get an address and then I looked at connection info in VXUtils and it has NO GATEWAY or DNS info.

So why would my DHCP server not assign it if it is not restricted???  It is merely a router and I have other wireless devices using the same connection????????????????????????????

Another side note:  My wifes PC just got an error that said there was an IP conflict... and I have no clue why.  I am not static on the IPAQ and there are plenty of addresses left.

You have applied all WiFi patches available for this iPaq model right?

If so, then the last resort is to hard reset the iPaq and use all the default settings. If it still won't connect then I'd check your LAN configuration closely.

I have no idea if I applied all the pacthes correctly, I applied all I could from HP but it was so damn confusing as to which ones needed to go first and last and before firmware or after... but I applied all I could (see attached file).  Please tell me is this right as far as you can tell????

My IPAQ files listed from Add/Remove

It is quite confusing really... If you have followed the two lists I've outlined before and still can't connect, then you could try a hard reset to use the default settings... Unless anyone else have any suggestions?

Here is the status of this troubleshooting thus far:

  1. I am sure it is not the routers because I can connect other wireless devices perfectly.
  2. I am sure it is not the DHCP because there are open addresses available
  3. I am not sure if the updates were installed properly as there are no check marks next to some of them. I installed these updates then did a hard reset on the device and noticed that all the firmware and drivers were installed so I am sure I did it right. I went to HPs support site and got a list and worked my way down anything that was closely related to networking.
  4. I have a fully OPEN NOT SECURED Access Point -- not even MAC address filtering is enabled.
  5. I can PING 131.191.7.5 (my DNS) and it passes.
  6. I cannot pass the ping to Yahoo.com, it says address does not resolve.
  7. My second access point (physically on the router that runs DHCP) is encrypted at 128b WEP and clients connect just fine.

To me there seems to be NO REASON for this to not work.

I can hard reboot the IPAQ again and anything I need to do.

One more thing... in the end the AP that this IPAQ is connected to MUST be secured (MAC Addressing or WEP, but SOMETHING).

PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP!!!!

If I could flash the IPAQ with the original image or software (taking all my updates and changes out) I could try again.  I did connect in the airport to a free hotspot and it worked perfectly.  When I could not connect at home (and home is wep secured) that is when I updated the device.

I will log off for now as I have chores, but will be back later hopefully.

Is there anyone here that can help now???

My AP is set as a completely open connection and I cannot connect this IPAQ at all.  I used to work for Micrro$oft Mobile Devices and I know there is a way to reformat the device.  the problem is that I cannot figure it out now.

Is there any way to reflash this HP5555 back to factory software (and I do not mean the hard reset) because maybe the drivers and such that I loaded on hear mucked the thing up.

PLEASE HELP!!

PLEASE HELP!!

A hard reset restores your device to factory conditions.] think only the XIP update is retained.

What about all those firmware updates??  My device when it boots up shows the version number and it is aligned with one of the firmware version I installed.

It must retain those in the firmware, right?????????

I AM DESPARATE NOW.... can anyone help me please?

I have no clue why this thing will not allow me to browse pages and why it gets only a 169.254 address.  There is no reason for this at all.

DBMDude

I am about ready to throw this thing into the trash.
