I have my Windows Phone linked to my Microsoft account, as required. Over the years, using Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 7.5 and so on it seems Microsoft thought it was a great idea to sync my Contacts information (grabbed from Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook) into my Microsoft Account.

Now I have a Microsoft Account with loads of contact that I have no interaction with, little interaction, some interaction and so on... I understand they probably do it because they need it to make sure communications through the People Hub works, but... I would understand if that was on the phone itself, not on my cloud-stored Microsoft Account.

One thing that is really annoying (and for some time) is the calendar being loaded with everyone's birthday. That's ok (to an extent) but what is not ok is the annoying default reminder triggered every day for two, three of more contacts having a birthday on that day.

Is there any way to batch update those birthday entries to have no reminder and make sure future birthdays are added without a reminder?

Most interesting would be the option to have all the features on the phone without sending my contacts information to my Microsoft Account.

Ditto...my solution for now is to remove all additional accounts except Hotmail/Outlook.com - my contacts are a mess anyway...

I had the same beef and asked on Twitter a while back. The Outlook team replied with a solution to toggle what gets added in the calendars. I had to do this on a Windows computer and login into Microsoft account, switch to calendar and toggles it off. Can't remember that exact steps but hope this helps.

The people hub concept has it's pro's and cons. Personally I barely use the people hub.

ie: I don't setup my facebook or linkedin in settings > accounts, instead I just use their respective apps directly.

I *think* this was how to do it.... log on to outlook.com, switch to calendar, go to calendar settings, switch to 'birthday calendar', uncheck "get reminders for events and tasks" checkbox.

My Outlook.com Calendar is already configured to not show notifications. It's the Windows Phone Calendar that shows the notifications. And all those birthday entries are automatically created with default reminders.

Still a pain, still want to remove reminders from ALL of them.

Not a great experience.

You can turn off completely - which means it doesn't show the events.

I want to be able to see the events, I just don't want the notifications. It would work if there was another switch "Enable notifications" for each calendar on Windows Phone.

I went through this, ended up turning them off.
