Hi,

I'm having some real issues trying to sync my PPC with my laptop (XP Pro, SP2, MS Office 2000) at home.  It has been previously partnered with the laptop but normally used my work laptop when adding new app's.

I've since moved on and no longer have the work laptop, but can no longer connect PDA to home laptop.  I couldn't find the CD that came with the PDA, so I decided to download v4.5 from MS.  Still no joy, but I expect that this may have something to do with compatibility with Outlook (v4.5 only supports Outlook 2007).

I followed freitasm's post  and NZChris's but had little success although ActiveSync did attempt to connect when I disabled some settings on PC-cillin, but still failed to connect.  I checked/ added the firewall configuration allows the following programs: wcesmgr.exe, wcescomm.exe, rapimgr.exe, ActiveSync service (port 26675) and then tried after I disabled the firewall's (MS & PC-cillin)... still no joy.

I then attempted to sync with my PC at work (v3.1 & v4.5) no joy either.

In all circumstances the computer is detecting the PDA, but ActiveSync cannot create a partnership.  I am not using a USB hub etc... one question I do have from freitasm's post
Look in the following log files for clues: %temp%\wcescomm.log, %temp%\wcesmgr.log, %temp%\wceslog.log.

is where do I find the log files?

Could there be a problem with ActiveSync on the PDA, if so how can I resolve when I can't connect to a PC??

Cheers, Stevo

The last new app I added to the PDA was Goldfinger Guider, but this was via SD card... if this helps??

Fixed it!  Well still some 'issues' to be resolved... A mate informed me that a hard reset may do the trick.  So I backed up my important stuff & hello I can now sync with my laptop!

First I had to disable Windows firewall & PC-Cillin (also stopped the wireless network at home so I wasn't vulnerable to attacks) and off it went.

Next I need to work through the firewall stuff.

Next question is - why did this all happen.  My thoughts are that when I attempted to sync with my work PC (new contract) it failed as they have their PC's locked down to certain app's for certain users.  Apparently I don't need ActiveSync to work.
I reckon this as when I went to partner the PDA at homw it asked which Outlook profile to be used, I choose one & then attempted to cancel to choose another.  the response from ActiveSync was that I would not be able to partner with the device if I cancelled now, but would still be able to share files.

Anyways, thanks for nothing - achieved required result on my own.  Tongue out

A hard reset will fix any problem on your Pocket PC, if it's not hardware-related, or if it's not something on the desktop you're connected to - and of course if it's not something like "I am trying to connect to a wireless AP with WPA and my Pocket PC is running an old version with no WPA support" type of problems...

Why it happens? Like the big Windows, a corrupt registry can make anything stop on a Pocket PC.
