Hi!

I am new to this forum ...

Ever since I got my XDAII, I've been trying to connect to the Internet through my ActiveSync. But I have not had any success. I've gone through all the forums on the subject but still I couldn't get it to work. Some say it might have something to do with my carrier. But I've changed to T-Mobile and it still doesn't work.

Do you have a STEP-BY-STEP guide on how to do this?

I'd appreciate your help ... by the way ... thanks for the guide is setting up ActiveSync via Bluetooth ... I got it to work!

There's not much secret. Simply open the ActiveSync Options. Change to Rules and check that the box The lason the ActiveSync progrand make the configuration is like this:

ActiveSync Internet Passthrough configuration

Also, make sure there's no personal firewall software blocking the ActiveSync program. This also includes the built-in Windows XP SP2 firewall which is ON by default.

Hi!

Thanks for your prompt reply ...

My problem is that when I go to Internet Explorer and click to a link (ex: O2 mobile portal) it acts as if it is trying to access something (the Windows logo is moving) ... then it returns an error message :"The page you are looking for cannot be found".

What could be the problem ... and the solution?

Try running the program \windows\welcome.exe on your Pocket PC, soft reset and then try again.

After this, if still not working, download and install the free VxUtil and use it to PING a known host (like www.wired.com). This will identify problems with DNS configuration.

Hi!

Pardon the ignorance ... but how do I do this?

Have you run the welcome.exe program yet? Different results?

This is the link to VxUtil.

Use it to PING www.wired.com or 209.202.221.21 (which is the same host).

Hi!

I have just installed VxUtil on my XDAII ... and I felt even dummier than before. I couldn't understand all this numbers that appear.

What are we attempting to accomplish with VxUtil?

What next?

I hope you just hang in there till we get this through ...

We need to determine if your Pocket PC can see the Internet through this ActiveSync connection.

Using VxUtil you'll find a PING menu. Use the Functions menu to find the PING option. Enter a hostname (check previous posts) and see if a reply comes back, If you receive a message like "Cannot find host" or "Timeout" it means your Pocket PC can not access the Internet or have no DNS server access.

If you enter the IP address and it gets a positive response (multiple lines with times) then it can see the Internet but can not access a DNS server.

Next thing then would be to find why. But we need to know what is the current situation.

Again, please check any firewall you have, like Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, Windows XP Service Pack 2, or even Norton Antivirus 2005 (it comes with basic firewall stuff).

Hi!

I opened VxUtil and went to the PING menu. Here's what I got:

Start Ping 209.202.221.21
1 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
2 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
3 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
4 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
5 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
Stop: Total 5, Good 0(0%), Bad 5(100.%)

Cannot find host www.wired.com

I have Norton Internet Security, Norton Antivirus 2004

I don't have XP SP2

Did you enter the IP or the name to get this output?

If you enter the name, the it seems that DNS is ok, but other connections are being blocked. You'll have to configure Norton to allow ActiveSync to connect to the Internet. You can try disabling it for a test (if you're behind a router this should be ok).

Hi!

When I entered the name (www.wired.com), I got this:

"Cannot find host www.wired.com"

When I entered the IP (209.202.221.21), I got this:

Start Ping 209.202.221.21
1 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
2 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
3 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
4 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
5 209.202.221.21 *Request time out
Stop: Total 5, Good 0(0%), Bad 5(100.%)

I will try to re-configure my Antivirus ... and post the results (fingers crossed)

Hi!

Still no success so far ...

I have already disabled my personal firewall in Norton Internet Security. I have also disabled Norton Antivirus. But I still cannot connect to the Internet on my mobile device via ActiveSync.

Are there some things I need to configure?

Still same results in the PING (as in previous posts)

that setting in ActiveSync is only applicable when you're connected through the cradle. If you at connecting through the network ActiveSync, you will not be able to access the Internet so easily.

Actually, I couldn't even connect to Bluetooth ActiveSync when I am on wireless connection to the Internet ... I know more knowledgeable people can make this work ... but I'm content with what I've got.

I just want the Internet Passthrough Connection on USB ActiveSync.

I'd appreciate the help ... Thanks
