Hi, I downloaded the users manual off the XT site and the Voda site and where it talks about the network it uses, it is the same.

So .. is the E75 the same phone if you bought it from a Telecom store or a Vodafone store?

I presume XT is (E)GSM 850 and Voda is 900. Plus it also has other frequencies to use overseas too like 2100 and 1800/1900.

Telecom does not have EGSM 850 network. It's WCDMA 850. Vodafone is WCDMA 900. They are different handset models.

Telecom Will be using the "US" version (850mhz WCDMA) and Vodafone use the "EU" version (900mhz WCDMA) of the phone.

The wireless device described in this guide is approved

for use on the (E)GSM 850, 900, 1800, and 1900

networks, and UMTS 900/1900/2100 HSDPA networks.

Does XT and Vodafone each work on "one" frequency only?

Just to be sure the E75 from XT or Vodafone store cannot be used at each other?? Even when it has multiple bands on it.

If you buy the one from XT (which will be the 850/2100Mhz UMTS combo) You can use it on XT, and will be able to use 3G on Vodafone in the major cities. But you will not be able to use the new 900Mhz 3G vodafone is offering, instead, it will drop back to 2G GSM if 2100Mhz 3G is not avaliable at the time.

If you buy from Vodafone (assuming we're only talking about the e75 at the moment) then you will only be able to use that on Vodafone.

Telecom do not have a 2G GSM network. They are strictly W-CDMA.

E-GSM is usually referring to extended GSM-900.

In the case of the E75, here are the specifications:

So it sounds like you need the E75-1 for Vodafone and the E75-2 for the Telecom XT network.

E75-2 will work with Vodafone 2G and Vodafone 3G 2100Mhz.

but yes, the 2G side will work with Vodafone

For 3G, Vodafone use UMTS 900Mhz and 2100Mhz (2100Mhz is city centers)
They also run GSM900Mhz (and I think they have infill sites that are 1800 [although, I'm not 100% certain on that, would gladly be corrected by anyone])
As for actual area's they cover, I'm not 100% sure on this, but 2G (which the E75 covers) Will function throughout NZ.
900Mhz has a similar coverage as 2G from what I see. Probably the easiest way to work it out is by looking here:

3G Extended is 900Mhz
3G Broadband is just 2100Mhz

Telecom run 850Mhz UMTS (3G) mostly, but they also have 2100Mhz UMTS infill sites.
850 will be everywhere Telecoms WCDMA network is, with 2100Mhz infill in major city centers (from memory).

PS: after reading that myself it looks a bit messy, I do apologize for that. Just a bit tired tonight!
