Having decided to make use of my inherited OKTA Touch I find that I am now tied to the Telecom CDMA network, which will apparently be phased out in 2 or 3 years.
In addition, since the OKTA Touch is a "data phone", prepay is not available.

The lack of prepay and the fact that I change mobiles about once every 6 to 8 years has me wondering if it is possible to have the OKTA Touch converted from CDMA to use a SIM card.

Anyone have any info on this?

No, it cannot be changed. It's a hardware thing.

Yes. Most of the times I am in front my laptop in the home office, so replies are fast.

The fact that it is a hardware thing may not necessarily preclude conversion.

true, just because the hardware doesn't allow it doesn't mean we can't still talk about it...

sooo...   have you got a hacksaw? because that I'd bet is the first step I'd bet to use it on GSM, start sawing your phone apart to bits. Oh, along with a hundred other (far more complex) details

Also consider that it's a CDMA device operating on 800 MHz, when the other networks in New Zealand are GSM 900 MHz (Vodafone, 2Degress) or WCDMA 850 MHz (Telecom) 900 MHz and 2100 Mhz (Vodafone) and you see it starts beig a bit more than "not a problem"...
