If anyone can solve this then they will be the first. This has been posted on lots of other forums. Here goes....

I have a Windows XP desktop connected via Ethernet to Windows 2000 server
I have a TDK (Go Blue) USB Bluetooth adaptor in the desktop
I can connect my IPAQ (H5550) via Bluetooth to the desktop.
I can see/use files on my C: drive with the IPAQ IF they have been 'shared'
I can see the network volumes and other Windows XP machines on the network.

I CANNOT access files on the network with my IPAQ i.e. piggy back my Desktop LAN connection using Bluetooth.

The Bluetooth network (when running) says that the Windows Client is available so I should be able to login from my IPAQ ???

HELP !!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like you're connecting to LAN Access service instead of Network Access service.

On your Bluetooth configuration (1.3 and up) the Network Access service should be configured as this:

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately I had already tried this. I get an error message

"Cannot connect shared path. The network path was not found"

if I try to expand the + next to the volume. If I click on Share I get

"Cannot map network path. Network resource cannot be found or you do not have permission to access the network. Contact your network administrator".

If however I click on my desktop I can see the shared folders I have setup. I still suspect that as I cannot "share" the folders on the server I cannot access them.

Still need help please !!!

Any firewalls installed (zone Alarm or Norton)? Remember, this connection will come from the Bluetooth software, not from a network adapter. The firewall could be blocking this?

I'm not sure I am following what you are trying to do.

So Is the Windows 2000 server in one network segment, say using an IP address of 192.168.1.100 and the H5550 in another segment say 192.168.0.100? Or are they both in the same IP space say 192.168.1.xxx?

If you install vxUtil from www.cam.com can you ping the Windows 2000 server by name, say MyServer ? And does it return the correct IP address?

Thanks

Firstly thanks for your continuing help.

I have configured the IPAQ so it is within our IP range i.e. 192.9..... The Windows 2000 server is within the same range. I can ping the server and can ping the IPAQ back.

As I explained it would appear that I can only access "shared" resources. I do not have a problem accessing the shared folders on my C:\ I can see the volumes on the server and all the other XP machines on the network.

The bluetooth configuration appears to indicate the Newtork Client is available to me but it does not present me with a login.

Is this a bridge too far and should I buy a wirless access point

The only resources you will be able to access over the LAN connection are "shared" resources, if the Windows Server is not sharing anything, then you will not be able to gain access to it. That will not change by switching to 802.11b or Wi-Fi.

Ok there are still a few things you need to check, first would be if you download vxUtil from www.cam.com and Ping by the Server name, can the PocketPC see the server and get a reply. You need to do this, by Name and not by IP address.

Ok if you can Ping your server by name. As in just MyServer, or Server3 and not as Server1.org then the next thing to see, would be if you can see the shares. So open Pocket File Explorer and enter your server name, by taping on the bottom right most corner icon. Enter the name as \\MyServerName and tap enter.

If this fails, then chances are your server is not running NetBIOS over TCP/IP, and you do not have a WINS server. You can try getting Pocket Host (it's free from Handango) and run this once, enter the name of your server, and the server IP address. Then save this, exit the program, and soft reset your iPAQ. This will load the settings into memory. And try the above check again.

Hope this helps

David once again thank you for your ongoing help. Most people give up by now!

I have Pocket Hosts and can ping by server name - Infuriating !

Do you know of a client that I can use to login i.e. force an authenticated login directly to the server. I have tried to get the VPN to activate via Bluetooth but to no avail.

Thanks again.
