I thought I would create a general topic for those musings or comments that don't warrant a thread of their own.

I'll start by saying that despite enjoying Tomb Raider 2015 quite a lot originally, I am sort of struggling a little with it on the console. It's not a controls issue, but the unstructured way you find things in the environment. The map does give an indication, but there are just so many nooks and crannies to find things in, it feels tedious.  I am about 38% of the way through, about half from what I did last play through, but with so many other good games out shortly, wondering if I should drop it. It does have some good moments, I generally like the combat etc.

Currently I have unfinished:

God Of War

Horizon Zero Dawn

Unchartered 4

Witcher 3 on PC

AC: Black Flag (Which I might work on finishing this weekend).

Trine the Trilogy

Xcom 2 (PC)

and quite a few others.

Are you a 100% type of player? Then games like Tomb Raider or more notoriously Batman series will do your head in.

To be fair to TR, it's not hard. It's just tedious, like you said. Mostly caches or trinkets. The optional tombs are the major side missions that you should do which brings you up to 80%~ but ignore the smaller ones unless you really like exploring.

God of War (the new one) is supposedly pretty linear and you should be able to get through it pretty easily without going out of your way to collect little things. I'd play that next if you're wanting to start something new (i need to get it too :P)

Witcher I wouldn't start unless you have some serious time to devote. There are a ton of things to get through and explore in that game, and with that it makes it an awesome to play. If you play on the harder difficulties it does get challenging.

Horizon/Uncharted are similar to TR, I'd play through em to get through the story rather than collect every tidbit.

Unrelated: I've found friends moving to ps4 primarily for exclusives and multiplayer. A lot of them on the wagon for BO4 versus getting it on pc for playerbase.

I'll stick to PC for high IQ and frames on single player games but i'm finding the social aspect of psn to be a bit wider than on pc(a lot more people).

I am surprised how much I am enjoying my console experiences in the past 12 months. Division was an absoloute hoot.

I am not really a 100% guy, but Spiderman I did complete. I like lots of side missions generally, but not just collectibles per se. I'll do the TR story, but don't see myself spending time worrying about other stuff.

GOW I suspect I am about 90% through. I have 5 days off coming up and will try and finish GOW, AC: Black Flag and TR ready for RDR2 and Just Cause 4. I also have AC : Origins I am about 50% through I think (story line only).

Nothing like playing with friends to make things more enjoyable :P

Only thing i'm not liking is the performance, wish more developers gave options like Nioh or Monster Hunter for graphics. I had to stop playing Destiny 2 for a bit because the low fps/motion blur made me sick. I haven't been sick from playing games in at least 10 years!

My mates are certainly excited over RDR2. Personally I'm interested in AC Odyssey (and Origins as some point) as it looks like a fun take on Assassin's Creed. I was probably in the minority for liking the sci-fi side with Desmond etc. but I don't mind how they've changed the series to be a bit different.

When I travel, I take my PS4. I've never taken my Xbox. I have only really liked my Xbox for the first time this year or maybe end of last year. I've owned the 360 and 3 of the ones, which I only buy for exclusives. I bought RDR2 on X1 because apparently performance may be better than the PS4 version, which is rare.

I am in Melbourne this year and during the RDR2 release. I am sorely tempted to take my PS4, but I will probably refrain and just play it when I get back.

I don't really like Mulitplayer games, with the exception of playing with 1 friend for Borderlands 2 which I can no longer get working, and Portal co-op I enjoyed. I don't have the time to become good enough to compete online.

After years using a laptop I've now a desktop (Intel Xeon, 48GB RAM) and a good GPU. Installed Borderlands 2 to continue the saga - I've finished Borderlands years ago.

It is pretty good game as engine goes. Graphics are great but it annoys me that so many optional missions appear AFTER you left an area. And if you played Borderlands you will know some areas are huge.

Also the equipment you find in loot crates, etc are just at or below your level - a lot of those are completely ineffective against some bosses. For example I managed to get a sniper rifle with a 1800 damage from the Golden Key but most of the rifles I find through missions are only at 500 - 600 level. If I didn't have this (three times damage) rifle I would really be in trouble around some areas.

I love love love Borderlands. Have you managed to get Multiplayer Co-op going? I have been trying to get it working with my friend, but he is very busy and it's rare to find time to get to play, would you be willing to see if we could get a game going so I can work out why we can't connect?

I have steam, apparently it should take care of most of it. I just can't see any opponents and even if I can see my friend, it won't let either of us join a game no matter who hosts. Frustrating.

Agree with your other points re gameplay. It can be frustrating.

I have an Assassin level 28 at the moment. Happy to setup a few night games to try - I haven't played co-op in years. My best man moved to Perth many years ago and since then I never really played online.

I remember in the late 90s when only Wellington and Christchurch had megabit cable service and the rest of the country was 64/128 Kbps ADSL or dial-up only - it was so much fun...

I keep meaning to sit down with Borderlands series and play them right through.......  lots of fun multiplayer.

But my mission at the moment is to play right through Final Fantasy 7 - only about 10% of way through so far, but brings back lots of memories of long nights with mates trying to finish the game :D

Speaking of moving about, PS4 remote play works a treat on fast connections. Everything hooked up to a win10 laptop and playing almost as if I was at home.

Yep PS4 Remote Play is fantastic.  I use it all the time, even at home while my wife is watching something on the main TV and I don't want to be relegated to the downstairs TV, I'll play PS4 on my Macbook from the couch :)

No you have to use it over USB connected to the computer you're using.  Although if you're using it in the same house (same network) as the PS4, my mate says he is able to use it wirelessly but I've never bothered getting it working.  i think the way he gets it to work is the PS4 controller is controlling the actual PS4, while the PS4 Remote Play app is just presenting the image.  Whereas the standard use case would be the PS4 Controller is controlling via the Remote Play app over USB.

Yup, it's a bit of a bleh move by Sony. You need the wireless dongle from sony if you want to use the remote play app on PC with it, otherwise connecting via USB is the easiest way to get going. It also detects the controller as a audio device if you have a newer slab of aluminium without a 3.5mm plug :)
