richms:Im getting bronze in everything, think I got a gold on one thing by luck. Just hit chapter 4 in the city. Time to go to sleep tho :(
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
xpd:Im still just plodding around taking it all in and getting used to the controls. I'll try to get stuck in this weekend and progress some more.

SpartanVXL: I didn't know there was a manual save either. It's apparently under the Story sub-menu. Also 4k rendering on ps4 pro is bugged, theres a bunch of comparisons floating around that show it looking pretty bad compared to xbone x. Playing at 1080p actually might be better for now until they patch it.

I got to play for 1 whole hour after I had installation issues related to a dirty disc.
In the end two things are apparent. One is that the game is huge. I am concerned about the controls etc, but the biggest thing is the colour banding whilst playing in 4K HDR, is so bad, it's unplayable, so I will very likely switch back to non HDR. It's a fault with my projector, but it's a result of the implementation as well. I have a few games in HDR 60FPS 4K that aren't anywhere near as bad, and I put up with the banding, but in RDR2 it's not possible to ignore.
I have Taste of Auckland tonight so I probably won't get to play till late, and squash tomorrow, Maybe the weekend!

Yea seems HDR and 4k is bugged till they patch. Personally I don't mind as i've only got monitors (no 4k) and am rather used to playing on lower settings to get consistent fps.
Also the controls....... :(
Who thought square for jump, circle for reload and synchronised tapping of X for full sprint was a good idea....

Some of those controls can be modified to something more intuitive.
I should google at some point for a recommended alternative control set for this game.

Unless I've missed a custom binding setting the only thing that doesn't screw up other controls is switching L3 (crouch) and X for sprint, which I tried but with the constant tapping to go full sprint/gallop is easier with the X button than pushing down on the analogue stick
I don't find the controls too bad - pretty standard Rockstar fayre really and they do become more intuitive the longer you play.
What was essential was adjusting the following:
I don't like aim assist as a matter of course, but I find a bit of assistance essential with the sheer volume of enemies and the difficulty of aiming whilst mounted and galloping full pelt! With mouse it would probably be a different matter.
At least the above removed a lot of the "treacle" sensation and improved things significantly.
In case it helps anyone with controls

They cant really deliver true HDR as most people have TVs that cant do it, so if they did would end up with whatever mapping the TV applies at the bright end of things messing things up and possibly looking worse.
HDR is a complete mess because of vendors adding it as a tickbox feature onto panels that cant support it and junk processing between the input and the panel. Im yet to see a display in a store with the same HDR source on multiple panels but you can be sure that even within the same brand they would have many that looked totally different to each other. Really the max brightness that HDR should do is an absurd amount that you wouldnt even want in a dark room as a transition from a dark scene, but thats the specs that they in theory should be able to achieve.
