Geektastic:
I did some digging and came up with this cheat system. I am going to investigate!!
@Geektastic Didn’t year anything further so I assume you didn’t find anything of real use or interest?
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Here’s a story about an alleged leak on pricing and showing NZ$799 and NZ$649 for disc and digital versions. Weighing up historical pricing and the effect of the Xbox pricing, these figures sound entirely plausible and likely to me.
If this price is true (and frankly I would consider 1K to still be good value compared with a PC video card), given the increasing capabilities and graphical ability of consoles, the case for PC gaming becomes ever weaker. And this is coming from someone who has for a long, long term seen the PC as my primary platform. Yes, a PC equipped with a top end video card can theoretically push out much better graphics but how good is your monitor? Even the very top end monitors with supposedly very good colour accuracy and the rest still won't be much compared to a nice OLED.

Yes it almost seems that PS (and I guess Xbox) over time has made a transition from being initially a “kiddies’ solution” towards being more a “serious gamers” thing.
Having said that, it will be interesting to see how FS 2020 on Xbox Series X will stack up against the sim running on a highly-speced PC - maybe not too flash.

This seems the most plausible and if true Sony has won this generation already. The Xbox needs to be cheaper to succeed, with around 50% of the console market if Sony launches at the same price or cheaper its over.
I'm on the fence about the disk model or not, I guess to play my old PS4 disk games I need the drive? Sounds like an actual price announcement is coming any day now.

The Playstation 5 definitely wins the battle of boxes but I don't see the console marketshare changing much if at all. Most people will buy the new console to fit with their existing gaming library. The voting for the new consoles in that article largely follows existing marketshare. My kids will go with the systems they already use or will get both.
Microsoft's strategy isn't even focused on getting 50% of the console market which, apart from the success of Nintendo's Switch at gaining first-time console users, has been a shrinking or static market. Microsoft have broader plans, not just console-specific, to increase subscription revenues and increase gaming on a range of devices. Their long-term competitors in this space are seen to be Amazon and Google with Sony much less threatening.
If anyone's interested, here's some of the more recent articles about the different strategies. To me, it looks like increasing stratification makes head-to-head console comparisons less useful:
A lot of rumours saying the PS5 disc edition will launch at $449 USD amazingly less than the Xbox X. All will be revealed tomorrow hopefully.

For me its gotta be PS5 only for the sole reason that MSoft will release all their xbox exclusives on PC while PS5 will not.

This. Microsoft made it clear a long time ago they don't care about how many consoles they sell anymore. That's not their goal. Their goal is getting people to sign up to there subscription based services like gamepass and xcloud a subscription is more valuable long term than a console sale. The truth is Microsoft don't care where you play their games. As long as your in their ecosystem. I do find it interested they have invested so much into series-x having the best hardware though. I do think the series-x exists purely because deep down they still care about the console wars to some degree but not to the extent fanboys think they do or should. If they didn't care they would have just had the series-s be their next-gen console. PlayStation will keep doing what its done before. Making great story driven single player AAA 1st party content. Its what their audience expect. And it seems to be working out for them. Whether that strategy will keep working remains to be seen. Microsoft are betting big on cloud based technology and services like gamepass being the way of the future.

I think they have invested heavily in this gen hardware because they expect to deliver XCloud and a Xbox is a living room an acceptable bit of hardware. It usually gets "other half" sign off. It means for the foreseeable future, they can deliver subscription-based gaming.
Most living room gamers want a console controller not a keyboard and mouse. It gives them room to breathe if their Xcloud isn't getting the uptake or isn't successful to still produce console games.

I wouldn't count on that. Sony make more money in the long run if they push their content to PCs as well; we've seen it with Death Stranding and HZD.
MS' ecosystem looks really appealing honestly right now because I use consoles and PCs both and what they have gives me more options. I'm more invested in the Sony side since I have a PS3 + PS4 already though so the switch is hard.
I think platform agnosticism is good in the long run as more content is available to users instead of only specific tribal camps.
Handle9:
Sure but really, who cares? Imo Flight sim enthusiasts would be a fairly small part of the market compared to people playing shooters or adventure games.
There are always going to be edge cases where PC or console is dominant. It's the mass market that counts and if you can have a gaming "appliance" that gives great experiences at a reasonable cost then those who care about the edge cases can buy what fits their needs.
That's exactly it - edge cases help companies make lots of money but these consoles are targeted at the mass market and even the high-ish end enthusiasts without much effort. A huge proportion of the market will be very excited by them. The likes of Nvidia are clearly targeting people with a lot of enthusiasm for PC gaming or edge case uses.

Wait until the other halves see the size of the Xbox Series X! Less likely to gain acceptance when its the size of a small subwoofer.
Prices are $499 disc and $399 digital (USD$) So top level is same as Xbox X pricing, expect $799 NZ for the disc edition.
Releases on 12th November in NZ, two days after Xbox X
