Wife got Westfield vouchers for birthday and said I could use them if I really really really need to :)

WOOHOO! I strongly recommend you snatch those vouchers from her hand and run down to the store before she changes her mind :-)

What are your guys impressions so far?(Please No spoilers for those who haven't played it)

I got mine last night after hitting dinner and a movie in town, found it on my doorstep...luckily in the 12 hours it was outside no one had stolen it :)

Started buying cars, didn't notice the new/used car thing though and went straight for a new car....now I've got some Grandma Nissan March, which is weak as anything :(

Also it's good to see the licensing style return to the GT1/GT2 styles, started playing through those and before I knew it, it was way way too late in the night. But all in all, I like the graphics, to me, they are more like GT1 graphics souped up for PS3, not amazing, but I like them.

To all those trusting the online reviews from IGN and the others, don't. Try it out for yourself, I read all the reviews during work yesterday and my experience differed greatly. For me it was like a blast from the past, for others you might find it either amazing or just a repeat of the last few GT series...

I've not played any of the Gran Turismo games since the original GT, so it should all be fresh for me, despite some of the reviews stating how "rehashed" it is. Just wish I could do something to speed up the 10 working day wait FlyBuys is imposing on me. Tried bribing them with chocolate via Twitter, but that didn't seem to work :-)

Absolutely love the driving, but the load times are getting annoying, the menus seem out dated and some of the models have some issues. Still an awesome game, but flawed IMO

Just done a quick google, apparently the issue is the game keeps checking with the PD servers, so if you aren't logged into the PSN the load times should be much better.  My other two complaints are quite minor, so hope this works!!!

So i'd played GT1, GT2 and GT3, never played GT4 at all, before getting sucked into the GT5 hype.

There were a couple of things that made me want to buy it more than any other GT game. One was the crash modelling, which as it turns out is poor. I can hit a wall at top speed and the bumper might hang a little low, it is not even close to vaguely realistic. I'd been expecting things like bumpers falling off, wing mirrors being smashed, windows broken e.t.c. (like many other racers i've played) but have so far seen none of it. The other reason i bought the game is that it has so many driving styles in it. I've tried go karting (remarkably hard i might add), rallying, Nascar, and of course the normal driving modes and enjoyed them all.

They were really the biggest reasons for my purchase and i'm excited and disappointed at the same time. I by no means regret the purchase but am holding out hope that the damage modelling gets ramped up in a future update or something.

Now it's time to get the next licence, earn some more money/cars, remember how bummed i was when i found i couldn't transfer my stuff from GT5P and get on with the racing.

Strange didn't think the load times were that bad but I did do a full install (takes about 50mins). I did notice the loading bar is sometimes very wrong.

I did see a PT Cruiser slyly going past with MF in it, he was probably scoping it out ;)

Nah it's a good thing indeed, good to get back into a game after 14 years or so and have it feel the same..to some younger generations it will feel completely different, but I prefer the if it works, why fix it

Load times though, yeah they are getting annoying, even with PSN Network signed out...seems to be constantly accessing the HDD

Yeah, turns out that the game connects to Polyphony's servers in almost all load times, and as their servers were congested the load times blew out.  Turning internet off on my PS3 has fixed it.

Bought a copy from the warehouse 8:30 Thursday morning for $97
Took 45 mins for the 20min update (can't claim microsoft minutes here)
First load froze when picking driver uniform
Second load froze updating profile...
not a good start - Both issues turned out to be network related (GT5 end)

Personal Opinions:
+ Gameplay - GT Mode racing is awesome..Very smooth game play (haven't tried arcade and probably wont for quite a while
+ Nurburgring - i'd have bought the game if this was the only track available!!!
+ Graphics 1080p on a big screen is awesome.

- No damage on standard cars (haven't raced a premier car to see the damage yet..)
- No interior view on standard cars
- Very limited "new" cars from dealers
eg one Aston, three Jags...

- Can't do an oil change (Car maintainance and servcice) from the garage between races (have to quite back to "My Home"
- Load times between races is excessive
- Maintainance - cheaper to buy new car than to "overhaul engine" and "restore body rigidity"
- B-Spec race - wtf - (give detailed instructions to a driver)-ie decrease pace, maintain pace, increase pace, overtake - hitting a button intermittently with those four instructions doesn't seem like a lot of fun over the course of 5 laps
-Nascar -another wtf...if i'd wanted to go around in circles i'd buy a motorized car and attach a string to it and watch it in the back yard... :)

Mainly focusing on the negatives... but in no way would i take the game back for a refund.
Still, no idea why its taken 5 years for this version

Gran Turismo 5 9/10 - with room for improvement with updates...
