Hey guys,

Got a group of a few friends playing Day Z standalone.

If you are ok with mature content (18+), play a few days a week sorta 7-11pm NZ time and enjoy fun times, exploring the map and not being a total jackass to bambis and gunning down bandits then would be keen to hear from you.

Could possibly move towards a more formalised clan structure as the game develops but at this stage pretty loose.

Cheers

Ross

I've been going back and forth with this for a couple of days. I'd dead keen to start playing the standalone but how good (or bad) is it? I've heard that they reset the data a lot so it makes playing for a purpose quite hard. Would be fun to just muck around with it though.

Most servers restart every 4 hours. I think this is because nothing respawns at this stage. It isn't too bad though, you just have to rejoin and you are back where you were with your gear. I've been playing quite a bit recently so would be keen to join your group but I'm moving so might not be playing for awhile unfortunately.

Really enjoying the early access, I don't mind that it's pretty bare bone, it makes you a bit more creative.

Just try not to be on a server when it restarts, if you are then you lose your gear.. Has happened to me twice, the last time was 2 days ago.. Several hours wasted gathering said gear..
Its advisable to wait a while before actually playing, plenty of bugs at the moment.. YMMV though, all depends on if you mind playing a game in a true "alpha" stage.

A couple of weeks ago someone asked if it was worth buying the game and Dean 'Rocket' Hall (lead developer) replied with this

"My opinion:
For the current game? No
For the price? No (it will stay this price for some time)
To see the game? No (you can watch streams)
To participate in development? Possibly

Overall, I would not recommend it. But I think in a few weeks, it might go from "possible" to "yes" on the last one"

I have never lost my gear from a server restart. I would say the game is worth buying if you don't mind a few bugs and a barebones experience, I've had a lot of fun with it and have played it more than any other game I've had in the past couple of years.

Look I find it pretty good a little glitchy but it's the random interactions and the fact that it's pretty suspenseful that attract me.

The more you have, the more you have to lose!

Be a lot better when they put in more zombies - enough so that pvp/firing a weapon becomes a real risk. Hopefully at that point players will be more will to try and talk it out or trade etc.

I have never lost any items to server restarts either!

I'm enjoying the low amount of zombies, to be honest I'd be keen to try it out with none. I played early version of the mods and there were quite a bit more zombies and I think they were faster as well, I liked it but to begin with it made it quite difficult.  Random player interactions and suspense when I have full gear is what I enjoy.

I had a play over Christmas and think its not too bad for Alpha. Only been killed once by a player (my fault). Got myself an M4 now. I tend to look for low pop servers as i enjoy the searching and Zombie killing and not so much the PVP.
Once you have the fire axe, its easier to kill them than to run.

This looks like a lot of fun. I never knew what is was but saw it appearing on different forums and then here so thought I would look into it yet.

I haven't played it yet but I think I will sometime soon.

I played Arma2 (not DayZ) hand had some problems with it. Played Arma3 and standalone DayZ and had no problems (apart from arma3 anti cheat software (battkeeye) crashing ALL the time and kicking me out of MP games). But no problems with DayZ.

I've just setup a dayz epoch server on my dedicated machine. I'm having so much fun with it (kinda abusing my server admin position to give myself all the tools I need). I'm building an extremely big fort with a friend and have fixed up a bunch of attack choppers and vehicles.

Great fun.

Played it obsessively for about a week, then gave up because #$%^ me, those zombies run faster than anything you've ever seen. Was just so much work trying to stay alive. In the end I remember crawling somewhere because my legs were broken and after like two hours, couldn't find a way to get myself killed because it took *forever* to drag my useless carcass anywhere, lol. And I had run out of ammo killing the bastard that kneecapped me. The suspense was awesome though. :)
