Hey anyone on geekzone playing ARK: Survival Evolved?

I would be interested to see how many people are using overseas servers and what their experience has been like, also any suggestions on what settings and mods would make the game better.

I have recently setup a dedicated server if people want to join, http://www.hacktivate.co.nz/ is the website for it. A few good mods are installed along with some settings changes.

If you have not heard about this game check it out http://www.playark.com/, its currently available on Steam and there is also an Xbox One version for console players. (Humble Bundle and others also tend to have the game on special so you might be able to nab a steam key for cheaper)

I like cheating and getting the dragon, but he only lasts for 20mins

Want to play it but $$ limited after a decent holiday, and dosent run that well on my setup (tried via friends copy) ...  system hungry game :)

Few of my friends are into it, and started their own server as well - which keeps crashing ;) Might point them your way instead :)

I have to say you are correct on the system hungry part, upgraded my GFX card recently but it still struggles at times, I think the -dx12 command options helps quite a bit from what I understand, increases performance by about 20% but I guess that all depends on if you GFX card supports DX12, next upgrade for me will have to be CPU as still running 1st gen Intel Core i5

Running a linux version of the dedicated server and seems pretty stable so far :)

Hmm will have to try that at some point, have not tamed a dragon yet! The Giganotosaurus is pretty fun too though!

you can play it on low settings on old computer.  I was running it on low on a core 2 quad with a cheap AMD gfx card (around $150 that I bought 2 years ago).

It runs on a GFX 840m laptop chip.

My son plays it on a GTX750 3.2ghz i5.  I play it on a GTX970 with same i5.

regardless of the hardware, it takes forever to load....

yeah thats completely OP.  first time we tried to tame one, I was level 55ish and my son was 75, my son died after one attack from it, i died from 2 attacks (think the first one must of just got me).  I just turned the cheats on for him and forcetamed him a few :)

I have an single R9 380 running on a Core i5 750 with 12Gb ram and its quite playable, there are ways to reduce the graphics for older cards\systems, just depends on how pretty you want it to look vs framerate.

Just on the performance side of things I think we need to keep in mind the game is still early access, the developer has said in multiple interviews that they have been concentrating on gameplay\content and will be looking at performance when they are in beta prior to full release.

In saying all this I have seen several videos of titan cards some dual titans, even these cards will struggle to render the game on epic settings with high resolutions, but when you see the level of detail you really start to understand why, the game is capable of some absolutely beautiful graphics its quite unreal... (given this is the unreal engine 4 it kind makes sense)

im not bothered by performance, its usually fine on mine and my sons system.  theres a little lag every once in a while, but generally its fine.  I just wish they made it start a lot faster, that takes forever and is a PITA.
