I have been looking forward to this game for a LONG time. I can't wait for it to arrive. The reviews seem largely positive, but I just about fell out of my chair when they said it was 15 hours long. I was like WTAF!? After playing games like AC:Origins, Witcher 3, Batman games, I expected much much more than that. I hope the DLC's are quick and continous. I am particularly excited since I just had my 4K projector and additional speakers for Atmos installed (not sure if this is going to help with this game or not).

Anyone else amped for it?

Was on the fence and waiting for reviews...and have now placed my order for tomorrow!

Looks like it will fill the gap nicely in the lead up to Red Dead Redemption 2.

15 hours sounds pretty good to me - my appetite for "completing" games which require 30, 40, 60 or even more hours just to get through the main story line has very much waned in the last few years. I also hate endless "collectables" busy work to artificially pad game length unless it is genuinely fun to play or adds something to the story.

I was just listening to the DLC podcast and preordered it off the back of that.  Pretty happy really - I'm having surgery in 2 weeks and this will keep me occupied while I recover, along with the new Tomb Raider!

Evidently the 15hr thing is main story depending on how you play, but there's TONS to do in the open world beyond that.

RDD2 and COD MW4 are possibly on my list, though I only like MW for it's black ops stuff.

So, I spent a good chunk of the weekend swinging through NYC on a 106" screen. It's a good game. I am not sure it's QUITE as magic as I'd hoped. I am not sure exactly how many hours I have played so far, but it's probably 15, and I have completed a fair number of side missions. Good Variance though some of it can be frustrating.

Combat can be a little hit and miss from time to time. Some of the group fights are pretty hard. The graphics and environment are usually very good, though it's probably a little harder to get engaged in the environment when you are swinging above everything at ground level. Some of the facial work is truly amazing.

It's a solid 8/10 from me. I expect to finish it this week and then ready for DLC.

I'd pretty much agree with the above!

It is polished, lovingly crafted and shows good understanding of the source material.

Manhattan is brilliantly realised and there is a lot of little detail and touches to the environment which make it feel alive.

I find the controls responsive and combat equally so 99% of the time.

Cut scenes are well put together, voice acting and expressions are top notch!

Like you, I am finding it is missing that certain, mysterious "something" that would make it a stone-cold Classic, but it is really decent and I am having fun and will definitely finish it.

Yes, I would agree with the both of you. Put in about 8 hours over the weekend and really enjoying Spider Man. The combat sequences are frustrating as the speed at which things occur make it hard to string together long combos, but the variety of moves and ways you can dispatch bad guys is impressive and, when in the 'zone', feels great. Cut scenes are top notch as is the story so far. I've been roaming around nabbing collectables and beating up randoms as well as climbing the tallest buildings and jumping off for that air time :-). Despite all the positives I have this nagging feeling that I'm going to get bored before finishing the game as it seems to be missing an X factor feeling...and I'm an old school Spidey fan too. The last X factor game I played was Horizon: Zero Dawn and I aced that from start to finish as well as all the side missions and collectables.

If I had to guess as to what makes it less "magic" it's the lack of being at ground level. It's where the people are. I have not been to NYC (high on my list).

As an aside, my finger tips are feeling tender from button mashing :)

I wish there were more stealth missions. Is it possible to do those construction sites without triggering a full on loud assault? Seems like Wave2+ are all done full noise. Would be cool to try and take out 5+ waves with a stealth approach.

I know more about Spiderman than I ever did before. The backpacks and collectibles have beeen interesting.

I don't really like that Parker is a bit of a loser. It's distracting. I've felt this way the whole way through the movies etc. Not being able to pay his rent, not getting himself together. Not a fault with the game, and I do like Spiderman, but Parker does little to nothing for me.

Played a few hours over the weekend, not as much as I would have liked.  It's fun!  NYC looks amazing, the story is cool, the acting is great.  Getting my head (fingers) around the combat is taking a little while but I've got the swinging down now and it's SO MUCH FUN.

That's basically because Peter Parker puts all of his energy into being Spider-Man, and as a result his personal life suffers.  So far this Peter Parker has been the truest to the character that I've seen so far in any of the films.

Yeah I understand why, but Superman manages OK, as to some other super heroes. It's not something I have any say over, but it does in my view make Parker look a bit of a loser. I don't like to see that. :)

I get super heroes don't get paid for being super.

I guess the difference there being Superman was always super.  Whereas Peter Parker was a well established social nerd who gained his powers well into the height of his nerdism, and now has to figure everything out.

The other thing was, what exact super powers did Parker get? Better eye sight, enhanced hearing presumably, spidey sense, strength apparently. He doesn't shoot webs naturally,  as he seems to fit the bracelets each time.

I think it depends on which canon you adhere to!

He always seems to have superhuman strength, resilience and reaction speed plus his "spidey-sense"

Pretty sure his wall-climbing ability is always part of the package too.

The web-shooters I have seen as both gadgets or firing out of glands in his wrist, depending on the source.
