Good day Im requesting some oppinions or recommendations from Geekzone members for a friend that have some low FPS with this GTA4 game. He just upgraded from 7950gx2 to 2 GTX 275 cards running SLI however the FPS are only staying around 65 and often dropping to below 25 even down to 14 FPS creating the jitter and lagg. He is running this game in high resolution "1080p' though but he reckons these two cards should run game nicely...

opinions wellcome.

Thanks

Andy

Some games have issues running on SLI setups. I am not sure about GTA4 but worth doing some Googling to see if it is a issue in this case.

From memory, GTA4 used to run like a dog until they introduced a major patch. Your friend should update if he hasn't already.

seems like it must be a nvidia thing with the game. maybe try turning off phsyx?
i have a low end ati card HD 5770 (single card) and it runs gta 4 max everything smoothly. my friends 6890 does it even better (mid range card)

As mentioned make sure the game is patched to the latest version and you have installed the latest drivers for the video card.

What are the other spec's of his PC? Often you need to make sure the CPU and GFX are well balanced performance wise, ie: weak cpu and strong gfx will be limited by the weak cpu.

Personally I would sell all those olds cards on trademe for as much as possible and get a single new Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 1GB or Radeon 6850 1GB.

We cant figure out the issue,
1- game has all patches. up to date.
2- Nvidia latest drivers installed.
3- Disk has been defraged.
4- pc scan for virus and spyware.
5- Windows xp sp3 upto date.
6- Computer with great aftermarket cooling solutions.
7- Big Pure power PSU cert. for sli.

pc specs

Core 2 Quad 6600
4GBs Corsair terminator
Asus striker sli mobo
Two WD 7200 HDs.
Two new GTX 275 on SLI
Danger den Water cooling for cpu.
and running game at resolution "1080p' with all eye candy on.

did you reckon one these components may be the cause of the drag or is this game just bad..

what does it say IN GAME in the graphics menu?
like as you increase the detail, it says how much graphics memory it will be using. if this number is red, it will perform poorly.
try decreasing the "view distance"

gz ftw

Yeah on the graphics screen the bottom item is called "Resource Usage" you want that to be green so that the graphics aren't too high for the available video memory.

You should probably hit the auto configure option and see what it recommends.

Thank you so much guys that sort what the cause of the problem was but game still bad so i guess some games like crysis you never get massive FPS on less you are running a pair of bad boys latest ATI and Nvidia high end cards.

so solution was lowered resolution and downgrade the settings to not so high.

thanks guys,

Andy

For best result imo, you should have the resolution set to the native resolution of the LCD screen and lower the graphics settings till you get between 30-60 fps.
