Hi

 

Trying to use the Mikrotik RB952Ui-5ac2nD router as a 5GHz bridge.

 

I have a computer and a couple of laptops using 5GHz WiFi ok.

 

The router bridging works ok on 2.4GHz.

 

Basic config is CPE, static IP, mask and a gateway to my AP Router.

 

Available APs show in the Mikrotik router for 2.4GHz only.

 

If I scan the 5GHz WLan (in the Mikrotik router) I see my Lynksys EA6700 but but the 5GHz AP doesn't appear in the available APs list.

 

Anyone else been able to get 5GHz bridging working?

With no band steering in RouterOS it's hard to recommend it as a WiFi solution right now.

 

 

 

That may be my problem... RouterOS may just pick the easiest (2.4GHz) option.

 

That has made me think that I may be able to disable 2.4GHz WiFi in RouterOS... have tried to disable 2.4GHz in the Wireless interface page but 5GHz does not link up.

It's not band steering.

 

What channel width and frequency is your main AP on? It's probably best to set this back to 20MHz and a common frequency such as 5180 or 5260 that'll be supported by both radios because the issue is very likely to be a mismatch.  Once you have this working you can then play with other settings.

 

I'd pick your current AP is probably on 40MHz but you'll have no idea if this is Ce or Ec (which determines if the HT control channel is above or below). On a device this makes do difference, but if you want a Mikrotik to connect it does.

Still playing about with the Mikrotik in bridge mode and trying to find a 5GHz AP.

 

Set up tried: 802.11 AC only, 20MHz and Freq 5240.

 

Still do not see the 5GHz AP on the Mikrotik.

 

Interesting that the Linksys Router (EA6700) seems to have very few 5GHz chan freqs. (may depend on channel width)

 

Also on a remote computer, using inSSIDer I can see that the Linksys router is active on 5240 and the next lower freq.

 

Also managed to upgrade the firmware in the Mikrotik from 6.30.4 (July 2015) to 6.34.1 (Feb 2016).... a massive list of  fixes.

 

More to try...

 From Mikrotik support:

 

Quickset wasn't designed for Dual band CPE option.

 

You can try to configure manually the wireless interfaces.

 

WLan1 is 2.4GHz and WLan2 is 5GHz.

 

 

 

So have been doing just that, WLan2 does appears to connect, but no data is transferring.

 

Discussion with Mikrotik support is ongoing.

Problem with 5GHz (WLan2) CPE bridging is still not fixed.

 

However, after some discussion with Mikrotik, I set up a test computer for remote login.

 

Mikrotik was able to repeat my setup scenario. 
Now Mikrotik developers are fixing this issue and will shortly be able to release fixed version.

Hopefully it will be a firmware fix.

Problem with 5GHz (WLan2) CPE bridging is now fixed.

 

Have just downloaded and installed RouterOS 6.35rc21.

802.11ac CPE bridge mode is now linked and transferring data.

 

All good!

Not sure about the wireless-rep... Just installed 6.35rc21 this morning which got the 802.11ac CPE bridging going...

 

In the file what's new in 6.35rc21 (2016-Mar-08) the docs show:

 

*) wireless-rep -  fixed speed issue when connected with Intel 802.11ac;

 

*) wireless - added new package "wireless-rep"

 

and a few others relating to wireless... wireless-rep, qos with nv2... improved 1 chain 802.11ac station compatibility...

 

and quite a few others... 802.11 roaming... actually too many to list without including the whole file.

I keep an eye on the RC's as I use a lot of Mikrotik hardware.

 

In packages you'll see the wireless packages and only one can be active - I'm assuming if you upgraded then it's probably using the wireless-cm2 package still rather than wireless-rep

 

Lots of the new changes only apply to the wireless-rep package which is a brand new wireless package

I do not see wireless-rep as such in the package list.
