hio77: on the note of the tablet, you do need to consider the fact that the testing method is slightly different on the app compared to the desktop Flash application, this can often causes faster than expected results.

This may be the key here - there can be a lot of caching under some speedtest circumstances which really skews otherwise normal results.

Can you test by up/downloading a file from a local server instead?

The modem was originally running on channel 11 and we have no devices that I know of that would interfere with that frequency. We had no problem with interference with our old modem before we changed modems and to VDSL from ADSL. We have multiple desktops and laptops as we are a student flat and all of them are having the same issue. As an example of the upload speed, the file I linked in my previous post was only 6MB and it took me ~15min to upload. I am struggling to upload word documents in emails and on facebook.

Would the caching on the speedtest account for a difference of 0.14Mbps to ~10Mbps?
I uploaded a 6MB file to my dropbox yesterday and it took me a good 15min.

Seems the router comes with preset QoS config. Try disabling IP QoS in Advanced | Network Tools
QoS [Deactivated] then click Apply at the bottom.

Link to instructions in manual:
http://files.dlink.com.au/Products/DSL-2877AL/Manuals/DSL-2877AL_A1_Manual_v1.00(AU).pdf#page=79

If your router comes configured with random default presets such as 802.1p on traffic it sends out, the 802.1p-bit values can affect how traffic is handled within the wholesale and ISP network. For example your upload traffic could end up in a VoIP queue.

The caching could account for that sort of difference, but if you are seeing the same on actual real world file transfers, it probably rules it out.

As Yitz suggets, QoS settings can have a big impact on upload speeds, but if it's OK over ethernet, then probably unrelated.

Given that router looks to be dual band, is the device that is working OK connecting to 5GHz or 2.4GHz? It could be some external interference wiping out the 2.4GHz band and leaving 5GHz OK.

Another option to consider is the TKIP/AES encryption type - some devices can get thrown by one particular setting.

It looks like the QoS was already set to deactivated.

I tried the tablet over both of the frequencies and it seemed to work fine over both. There was slightly slower speeds on the 5GHz but nothing that was out of the ordinary. Looking through the settings and the encryption type is set to 'both'. I'll try them individually and see if that makes a difference.

If you have access to an android phone, download wifi analyzer (its free).
It might help to see how "crowded" the wifi space is.

It's very uncrowded. It's only picking up 2 other networks running on on 2.4GHz.

Again in the QoS section (for reference http://files.dlink.com.au/Products/DSL-2877AL/Manuals/DSL-2877AL_A1_Manual_v1.00(AU).pdf#page=79)

Are there any preset rules in the Rule Index (0,1,2,3...etc) ? If so, delete each rule and Apply.

With QoS being disabled, the whole page of options is also disabled.

there is a programe called wifi speed test which you can run on your phone on a PC and it allows your android device to send/receive a file and it measures the speed of the transfer.

could be a good way of testing the wifi locally.
