Alright, I'm starting my own thread for my problem so I can go into detail without everybody else's specs.
Here is my situation.
I am on a WinXP Pro Box trying to get my BT dongle (Widcomm 1.4.2.8) to connect my Palm T|T3 to the internet. I have followed the guide and when I do that I get the Error Timeout (0X1212). I have tried the RAS and I get better results, but no internet per se. With the regular network setup, I get no DNS resolution... everything pings IP 14.0.0.234, no matter what host I ping. With RAS, I get DNS resolution, but no ping replies.
I would like to use the standard network connection, but would resort to RAS just to get the thing working. Here are my full specs.

Linksys Router/Hub (BFSR41) DHCP off, Router IP 192.168.1.1

Network Card NVidia Nforce MCP, IP 192.168.1.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.1.1, Primary DNS 192.128.133.77, Alternate DNS 192.128.167.77.

This setup works fine to get me and 4 other computers on the internet/network (with each computer having a different 192.168.1.x IP address, of course :) )

With these static settings (needed for remote admin progs) is there any way that I get get my T|T3 on the internet?

First the standard setup, please don't skip any step.

remove Zone Alarm, NIS or anything else or at least make sure it's not started when the computer boots.

Be sure that your Bluetooth configuration is like this:

on My Network places properties, open the properties for Bluetooth adapter. Enter IP 192.168.0.1, Primary DNS 192.128.133.77, Alternate DNS 192.128.167.77

on properties for the adapter that connects this computer to your network enable ICS to the Bluetooth adapter. Make sure this adapter is not firewalled with the built-in firewall.

On your Palm:

I fixed it!

Okay, here it is

Your network/internet card settings:

Whatever it takes to get on the internet.
Enable ICS under the advanced tab or ICS tab

Your BT Network settings:

IP: 192.168.0.1 (ICS IP)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 (Standard)
Gateway: Leave this blank

Primary DNS: Whatever your router IP is. In my case, 192.168.1.1. Should be the same as your gateway on your network/internet card.

Secondary DNS: Leave this blank

Your Palm Network Settings:

Under details in Network, uncheck both query boxes and enter these numbers:

DNS: Again, you router IP number, in my case 192.168.1.1 again
Secondary: Leave this blank

IP: 192.168.0.2 (first assigned ICS IP)

Bam... Internet!!!

A lot of people tried to help me with this, but nobody laid it out this simple. I stopped and thought of what was supposed to be happening and it all came to me. The BT is ICS with the network card, therefore 192.168.0.1 has to be that IP. The DNS server is coming from the network gateway, therefore this MUST be my DNS server.

On the Plam, it's just another computer on the network so it will get assigned the next IP in line, hence the 192.168.0.2. Again, DNS is coming from the gateway.

This was going to be my last attempt for the second night staright and it turns out, it IS my last attempt!!! SUCCESS IS MINE!!!

I really hope this helps some people out there. I freid my brain for two nights on this!!! Post and let me know if it helps!!!

P.S. Polm OS 4.1 and lower users may still need the script:
Under Details, tap script and use this script
Send CR:
Delay: 1
Send: CLIENT
Wait For: CLIENTSERVER
End

This is typical of OS4 and below... OS5 Users should not need this script.

Alright, if you ever get your Palm on the internet, DO NOT EVER REBOOT!!!. I rebooted and I cannot get mine back on now. After seeing this, other networks settings may work, even the ones in the guides. Apparently there is something on mine (and yours, if you are reading this thread) computer that is keeping us off. I shutdown ZoneAlarm, same as I did last time to get it to work. After these last settings, things just took off, but after a reboot, right back to square one. If I can nail down my problem, I will post yet again!

Okay, here is what I came up with, at least on WinXP Pro.
I noticed that everytime that I reboot, my network/internet card icon is not depicted as shared. If I go int the settings it says it is, but it seems to not be tied to the USB dongle. I noticed at one point that the dongle actually loaded about 5 seconds later. What I did is Unchecked ICS, closed the box, reopened props, rechecked ICS. Sometimes the box would hang. If it hung, I would shut it down and do it again until it successfully closed. This would get me back on the net EVERY time!!! This seems like a lot of work to keep the connection open though. With this new information, is there any other way to keep this alive with no user interaction? No disabling and re-enabling on every reboot?

It seems like something is wrong with your Windows XP setup. The ICS configuration is supposed to be retained all the way through reboots and user changes.

Well, whatever my problem is, that fixes it. It's troublesome to do this every time, but it does get me on the internet religiously now. My ICS box is still check, but I don't have the shared icon unless I go through the steps mentioned in my previous post. It seems that my BT network is temporarily unavailable when ICS is initiating. Then it's available when I do those steps, so it shares. Maybe this'll help some others sharing my problem, maybe not. I'm almost happy!!! :|

I have exactly the same problem and following various guides didn't help me. I saw this post and I have a very similar LAN setup, which is (in the same format as the original post describes):

I am using the same Widcomm (1.4.2.8) version of the driver on a belkin bluetooth adapter and trying to connect from Clie PEG-TG50 PDA (Palm OS 5.0).

I followed the same steps that worked for Hoosier_Daddy, ie:

I still get the same timeout error (0x1212). The initialization goes thorugh, but times out during "signing on" phase. Meanwhile, I can see that it is connected to the bluetooth LAN access. I have already shutdown ZoneAlarm, and made sure MS firewall is not enabled on any of the NICs. What else I could be missing here? I will really appreciate any help.

Note: I installed XP sp2, and had to go thorugh workarounds to disable microsoft's bluetooth enumerator and reinstall widcomm drivers, but it seems to work fine, without any interferences from the MS feature. Does having sp2 be causing a problem in my case?

You should leave the query boxes checked, and ICS will populate the field for you. Also, make sure the Bluetooth configuration is set to "Internet Access" not "Private Network".

Actually, I got it working just now. The problem was that I had the script programmed as per the existing guides, and this was what was causing the (last) problem. Originally I had the script, because it was suggested as an alternative. But with the new settings that worked for Hoosier_Daddy, and without having any script (which I belive is what Hoosier_Daddy also did) it connected immediately. So, thanks to Hosier for posting these settings.

Now I wonder what settings I need to change in ZoneAlarm such that I don't have to shut it down to access internet from my pda. Any help anyone?

Very good!

I know that having Zone Alarm set to Medium helps in some cases - it doesn't block private network addresses. You can try this if it's not already in this configuration.
