Hey there, I would appreciate some help with this.


I have recently purchased an ASUS RT-AC68U router and a TP-Link TD-8040T modem. I wish for the router to connect through the modem to access the internet. My ISP is slingshot, and am on a regular ADSL 50 gig plan - not VDSL or fiber.

Separately, I have managed to get the modem to connect to the internet and have set the router up for my network. I can use these two independently - connecting to the modem through ethernet to access the internet directly, and I can use the router as a wireless home network. I just can't get the two to work together, that is via ethernet have the router use the modem to connect to the internet (via WAN port on the router to a lan port on the modem). The lights on the router and modem both indicate that they do know they are physically connected to each other (WAN light on router/LAN light on modem).

I've searched and have tried (on the modem) disabling DHCP server, making it's address 192.168.1.1. On the router I've tried two WAN settings: PPPoE and automatic IP - both with default settings. I made the IP address of the router 192.168.1.2 with it's IP pool starting from 1.3 onwards. I've also tried a manual IPTV setting (internet VID = 10, everything else default) - probably completely wrong, but thought I'd give it a go).

I've read things about bridging connections, but I can't figure out what to do/how to do it - is this even on the right track? Basically I'm just lost, and am looking for guidance. Again, any help would be really appreciated!
