Ive got a Fritzbox running with Snap (2 Degrees) and its fine but wifi signal is not super good.

Ive also got a Netgear D7000 which I think will give a way better wifi siginal as an access point.

But being new to access points how do I set it up. I have connected Netgear to the Fritzbox but cant login into the Netgear or anything via the web to change it to an access point. Does not seem to be connecting.

Are there setting on the Fritzbox I need to change to do this. Im totally lost. As far as wiring ive got internet going into Fritzbox as normal (yellow) then connected the Netgear to to Fritzbox (red boxes) I presume this is correct.

Can you connect to the netgear's wifi and access its admin interface that way?

If so, does it have a bridge (rather than routing or NAT) mode?

I'm no networking expert (and hopefully someone here who is can confirm either way), but my understanding (and based on experience) is that the ethernet cable between the two devices should simply be plugged into a standard ethernet port (the yellow ones) both ends, whereas your photo above shows it going into the "internet" port on the Netgear device. If you haven't already done so, perhaps try plugging this into one of the Netgear's ethernet ports?

I've got a Fritzbox and have a second router as an AP, and only yesterday replaced that second router so just went through the same set-up as you've been doing - the key things I recall are disabling DHCP on the second router, assigning it a new IP address (one that logically follows on from the main router, eg 192.168.1.2 if the main router's 192.168.1.1), and amending the assignable IP addresses on the main router to ensure it can't allocate that same address (eg, in the above scenario allow it to assign addresses from 192.168.1.3 upwards).

I recall in the past if everything wasn't completely correct the network would work ok much of the time but would have occasional problems, and then it's a hassle trying to sort them out - which is why it's worth ensuring it's set up properly first off (eg, it indicates something's not quite right if you can't log in to the Netgear in a conventional fashion). I too remember having issues accessing the second router, but I think this was due to not assigning it a new IP address. To make all the adjustments to the second router I connected to it directly from my laptop via an ethernet cable with no other connection in place (eg wireless turned off), as both my routers had the same default IP address - I made all necessary adjustments before even connecting the two routers.

Had someone a bit more tecky than me set mine up.

On Fritz Wifi on, channel 5 (was clear and 1 was busy/picking up other traffix) and called (as an example) ABC
Old tplink from my Telstra days setup with dcp from Fritz and wifi (called also ABC) on but on in this case using channel 11. Connected to standard Ethernet port. Set with static ip via mac on Fritz.

Seamless in house and wifi working everywhere. I do remember we had to change the channels so both were different and it fixed some issues.

should really only use channels 1 6 and 11 in the 2.4ghz band
