Hi, hope someone can help a poor newbie!

I've got an Ipaq 1945 (excellent machine!) and, thanks to the great guides on theis website and forum, I've managed to get all things bluetooth working.

Now, I'd like to get into the big world of Wi-Fi, both for remote internet browsing via hotspots, and wireless networking at home.

My Question: what kit do I need for this? I presume a SDIO Wi-Fi card for the Ipaq. But what hardware do I need for the desktop at home so I can make a wireless network?

Any help would be appreciated!

PS. I live in UK - anybody knows the UK prices for these kit?

Thanks

Other users will probably help too, but depending on your network I'd suggest a wireless access point. In general they're easy to install, a little tweaking is needed to make sure the security is in place, and you should be ready to go. I tried a D-LINK last week, but sent that one back - every 20 minutes I had to unplug it from the wall because the whole network would freeze.

I recommend the Belkin access points. Quite good stuff.

Thanks Mauricio,

I'm still a bit in the dark here. On the web, I've seen routers, internal Wi-Fi cards for desktop PC's etc.

What exactly do I need? Do I need a router or just one of these internal cards?

Obviously, I need an SDIO Wi-Fi card for my Ipaq 1945.

Many thanks

You can use just the card on your laptop, but you'll need to configure it to share the internet, pretty much like you have to do with Bluetooth (or Bridge the connections). I'd go for an access point (sometimes these come with router capabilities), which is dedicated and will be easier to manage if you have a network at home (for example if you have a cable modem or DSL service).

may i ask which SDIO wi-fi card did you decide on?

or alternatively which is a good one while not being really expensive?
