Hello,
Im new to the forum, and I've tried to do some searching. I purchased a pretec bluetooth CF card for my toshiba e740 to connect to a bluetooth tomtom gps receiver. I couldn't get it to work. I then took it back and got an Ambicom bluetooth card. Turns out they are basically the same device with the same drivers, so it didn't work either.
At this point I thought it was the gps receiver but I tested it out on a laptop with a usb dongle and the IBM implementation of the Widcomm drivers and it worked perfectly.

So my question is what are good CF Bluetooth cards for Pocket Pc 2002 that allow you to 'connect' to a serial device preferably using the Widcomm stack? I noticed using the drivers on my laptop I was getting the same problem with the gps receiver until I selected the device and selected "connect".

With the Ambicomm drivers on the pocket pc, I could pair but there was no option to "connect" and therefore the blue light on the GPS never stayed solid, just flashed.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I'm not familiar with the Bluetooth implementation on these two devices, but sometimes you just have to pair and the connection will be to the only device available. Perhaps on TomTom you have an option like "BTC" or "Bluetooth Serial" on the configuration?

The ambicomm/pretec devices have an implementation of bluetooth using 'blueneighbors' which works fine with cellphones transfering files but, from what I've read, works well with very little else.
The software shows devices it detects, allows you to "bond" with them and if you select properties you can get a list of services.
My TomTom GPS has only one service, Serial.
For the embedded systems like the iPaq, the bluetooth software gives them an option to "connect" to the device, which ambicomm does not.
The pc software using the IBM bluetooth software/Widcomm stack allows me to create a bond, discover services and then "connect" to the serial service. That is when the bluelight stops flashing on the GPS receiver and stays solid blue... and that is when it starts transmitting data to the PC.
