This is what my "home network centre" located in a built-in storage space in my house looks like currently:

On this picture you see:
- DrayTek ADSL modem (white box) - the only one I know that allows PPPoE Pass-through
- Cisco/Linksys voip box (silver)
- TP-Link wireless router with Gargoyle firmware installed
- The big black box is a linux server that I'm mostly using when I'm working with open source linux project. I'm a windows guy, and running c compiler in the VM is too slow so I put together a small dedicated box beefy enough for that
- What you can't see (the two wires in the bottom-left corner going under the door) is the telephone base (the wires are the power and the voip box connection)

In the very nearest future I'm getting also a couple of network wall sockets here because I need to have a wired connection to my PC and a wired connection to steamlink that I purchased recently. Steamlink does not work well with Wifi it requires a wired connection.

In more distant future I'm maybe getting a NAS, and if I do I will need another router, because I will run out of ports on the wireless one. I also might get wired connection to other rooms as well, with a patch panel in the storage space, but for now the wireless connection works fairly well (it's not a big house) for everything but steamlink.

Now, I'm not really happy with this mess of wires as of now, but when I'll get the two wired connections I mentioned above it will be even more wires. And if I get NAS/router/patch panel there will be even more.

So I would like to get some advice as to what people do to make it look nice and neat. I suspect that it is simply impossible to make it nice and neat, look at all these power supplies! I'll need to get more extensions (power sockets) if I add more hardware in there.

There is quite a lot of space in this storage space vertically and I'm not even using all horizontal space right now, so that should not be a problem. Do you have any concrete pointers (like what/where can I get) that can help me organise the cabling in this "network cabinet"?

I've found plenty of vids on YouTube for home network setups. There are lots of good ideas to be found.

I think that the start is a few connected items and the problem of how to tidy them up.

You can use structured cabling (and cabinets) techniques. Essentially, just centralize your data and stuff it away (in a tidy manner) in a cabinet.

Of course, you also need a plan to link wireless in too.

Beyond that, you quickly get into using the same sort of techniques that businesses use. i.e. server cabinets, rack mounting etc.. They have already solved that problem.

You won't need an extra router if you need more wired connections - just buy a 5 or 8 port basic switch, like the TP-Link TL-SG1008D, less than $40. Connect it to a LAN port on your existing router.

That's right, I meant switch, when I wrote router, mixing up terminology! Sorry about that!

At your stage i suggest if you want something cheap, get yourself a wooden shelf kit from your favourite hardware store or even something from a second hand shop

can i also suggest replacing that multi box with one that has extra spacing for those power packs

how much would you be willing to spend?

Pretty much same setup as me.

Except all that stuff is shoved in the back of the TV cabinet behind that DVD player you will see.

The router I am using RB2011L-IN doesn't have wireless, but has an awful lot of advanced routing features, as it runs router OS. One of those cables runs out to a unifi AP for my wireless. I find 8 that ports is sufficent for my home for now. I dare say as time goes on and I acquire more devices which use the internet, I may look at a bigger switch.

I got the VDSL equivalent of that DV120 you got, (the DV130) which does PPPoE Bridge Mode/Passthrough.

Got shorter network cables today from PBTech. I'd say now it looks a bit nicer.
