We have the M5 model. I am just reading the PDF documentation. It notes the frequencies in the range of 598xxMhz. There is also channel width which goes from 3Mhz to 40Mhz. When one uses WiFi analyser do we change the channel width?

You change the channel width via the devices web interface. Typically you would use a NS M5 in a point to point link as has directional radiation pattern. Maybe advise the exact nature of your application.

Ok, we have a Fritzbox with a Cat5 cable going outside where the M5 is located. They want better reception out in the back. I haven't done any of it. Usually when I use the Wifi Analyser app it shows channels from 1 to 14 or 36 to 161. 1 to 40 is a bit limited?
M5 should be locked on a single channel, e.g., 40, that is free from interference from another radio source. Channels 1 through 14 are in the 2 GHz band and not supported by an M5.

So do I run the app and select the best channel or do I just leave it at 40?
What is this freqency where the numbers are like 5,7xx to 5,8xxMhz? Leave this as auto?

The frequency setting corresponds to a channel number and should be set on a channel (see list for corresponding frequency), e.g., 100 (5500 MHz center), which has no interference from other sources. The channel bandwidth is how wide the channel is, e.g., 5480 to 5520 MHz for channel 100 with bandwidth of 40 MHz, 40 MHz is fine on 5 GHz band.

Note: I never leave on auto and have found that it doesn't really work two well, I've had two Ubiquiti radios within a metre of each other on overlapping end to end links with the one on auto choosing the same radio channel as the other.

Edit. In terms of selecting this frequency number after deciding on the "width". How does one go about selecting one?
One thing to be aware is that the nanostations will only show to a PC or phone when on 20 or 40 MHz and on one of the standard channels. With 5GHz that means ones from the usual tables that you see floating around. There are options to use alternative frequancies, and the narrower channels which are not wifi-spec so a phone will not show them.
Yet another reason why that annoying thing people say of "use your phone to see a free channel" needs to hurry up and die.
Sometimes the same channel will work better when radios are close since if they are on different channels, the carrier sense will not work but the output from the other radio will desensitize the other one to the point it is deaf anyway.
Can you return the M5 or use it elsewhere? The unifi AC mesh ones are in stock now, dual band, and the small one has 2 antennas - outdoor omnidirectional and works thru the normal unifi interface, has all the same stuff as the other AC unifis do. Much better option than re-purposing a M5 as a general accesspoint.
They have had it for a year. I have just been reading the PDF to help them improve it. At the moment they have it installed with the back of the unit facing the area they want reception. Will get that changed.
Ok, so regarding the channels. They can't return it. How do I go about selecting the width and the frequency?
They have a web interface you need to use to change all that stuff. From memory there was a tool to find the IP of them if you have lost them on the network thru IP changes etc.
Its really not the tool for the job tho, I tried a m5 loco for the back yard and it was really spotty coverage to phones.
