Recently was given a USB Bluetooth Adaptor for my Toshiba Satellite, installed it but continually got the following message " Bluetooth Device Not Found" in addition to nothing happening when clicking onto "My Bluetooth Places". Tried it on another machine in the office and worked perfectly. So I purchased another device, ST Lab's Bluetooth USB Dongle and guess what, exactly the same has happened, while it works perfectly on the other same computer in the office. However, this time, while the error message is still recieved and the Bluetooth icon indicates no connection, I have been able to link to my Motorola A925 Mobile phone.

Is there a known conflict of some sort with the Toshiba Satellite/Toshiba Bluetooth Stack for Windows XP, and can it be resolved so that I can use ALL the functional features of the device. I have recently downloaded Windows Server Pack 2 and the most recent Toshiba Bluetooth Stack.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I am ether going to go grey and/or bald with frustration very soon.

Check the "Device Manager" of XP to see if the BT-hardware was installed properly.
Use always the Bluetooth Stack which was shipped with our Bluetooth adpater.
Every hardware have to be certified by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group before
the vendor can sell it. This means a BT-stack works only with the certified hardware.

If you use the Toshiba Bluetooth stack then you should also own a hardware, which is spported
by it. See the following URL under "Product Info -> Toshiba" for more information.
http://aps.toshiba-tro.de/bluetooth/

It is the same with the MS-stack. Make sure that your BT-device is supported before
you complain that it does not work

Apologies for any offence caused but the intention was not to state that either the Bluetooth Adaptor or Toshiba were at fault, but merely, that in my case I was having problems with not one ( 1 ) but two ( 2 ) different USB adaptors, that worked perfectly well on an office computer but not so well on my laptop.

Will however take your advice and see whether I can resolve my issues.

Thanks,

Nick

It was no offence. No problem. Which Bluetooth adapter was your first one ? A internal one or just a BT-adapter of any other vendor ? The internal one should work. If you intend to use the ST Labs BT USB adapter then uninstall the Toshiba Bluetooth Stack first. Then install the one which was delivered with the BT-adapter.

Thanks Don and I think your advice may have solved the problem and I stress I think. I alsoforgot to mention that I am a complete novice at this Bluetooth, let alone computer jargon thing.

Anyways, the first USB Adaptor that I got was an Integrity USB Adaptor Class 1 (100m) range adapter, which I have subsequently given to my sister.

What I did was to install the disk's that came with each Adaptor, and as mentioned before "My Bluetooth Places" wouldn't work, while in the icon tray, it would show two ( 2 ) USB icons one coloured red and one white.

Tried deleting the Toshiba Stack and was left with only one icon, coloured red and still "My Bluetooth Places" wouldn't work.

So I deleted ALL Bluetooth related programs and re-installed the latest Toshiba Bluetooth Stack. Then before installing the CD that came with the ST Lab Adaptor, I connected the USB Adaptor. What I now have is what looks like a little flag pole in my icon tray that lights up when the bluetooth adapor is connected, a single blue tooth icon in the same tray coloured white, and an icon on my desktop called, "Bluetooth Information Exchange", containing three ( 3 ) files being "File Transfer, "Image Transfer" and "Object Push".

Compared towhat I have seen in "My Bluetooth Places" on the other computer that I previously mentioned, am I to assume that this is how Bluetooth works with a Toshiba related PC/Laptop, in other words my computer is configured right to use Bluetooth.

Also note that I have s/w Toshiba and they have not been of much help.

Yes, it seems to work. To install new bluetooth devices, just double click on the mentition icon in the tray bar (it an antenna) and BT-settings (the BT hardware wizard) will open. The "Bluetooth Information Exchanger " is for file transfer, picture transfer (e.g. from a digital camera) or exchanging businiess cards from an mobile phone.
